Multiple the 2 numbers, then add the first number, since so many got the answer right! I couldnt figure it out either. Had to look at the answer! It was in AARP magazine like the other one I posted.

I added one to the 2nd number, then multiplied by the first number.

1 x (4 +1) = 5

2 x (5+1) = 12

3 x (6+1) = 21

I never would have thought about doing it the other way.
