Hi. I have fibro/c.f. as part of an autoimmune disease. I also have asthma. I have been having these episodes for a while where I feel very sleepy and feel like I am not breathing well. If I use my inhaler, a few hours later, I cough up significant amounts of phlegm and then feel my breathing improve significantantly. However, in between the sleepiness and inhaler use and the coughing up of phlegm, I often fall into an uncomfortable sleep. When I awake, I feel generally ill, like with a fibro/c.f. flare. I have mentioned this to mds, but they don't seem concerned, or do not understand how disabling this is. When working full time, this can happen on a daily basis at least. It happens mostly when I have been somewhat more active. Often, if things are very bad over several days, I get bronchitis. When more active, I have it every 3-4 weeks. Does this happen to anyone else? I don't know what to do about this and am concerned that it seems unexplainable. Please tell me I am not alone......

Help! Does anyone else have trouble breathing with excessive phlegm?
Hi Mja75, so sorry to hear things are so tough for you at the moment, and please know you certainly are not alone.
I don't have exactly what you have, but empathise, my daughter who has asthma, very recently was put on to a 'Fostair' inhaler; the change in her has been remarkable, might be worth speaking to your Dr. She had been feeling lethargic and that her phlegm issues had worsened before using this. When was your last Asthma Review? Do you use 'Vicks Vaporub' or anything at night, she found this on her chest at night beneficial when she was bad.
I also wonder if you have had your thyroid checked, only because a few years ago now, i couldn't figure out why I was so fatigued, it turned out to be an under active thyroid.
Try and remember to listen to your body, all your health issues will have a knock on effect, especially if you are sleep deprived, try not to worry yourself overly, this will also have a detrimental affect.
I hope your symptoms dissipate soon and you feel some relief, and that your GP is more helpful in the future.
Remember and be kind to yourself.
Stay safe, keep well and be strong.
