I have MF; my analysis have come back JAK2 V617F negative and MPL W515K/L negative. Is this good news or does it make no difference? Crapaud

Hi, I have passed your question to Prof Harrison and she has said that 'in reality it makes very little difference, in the future it might be important to know whether you have the CALR mutation or not'. CALR is a new gene that has been identified in a study lead by Professor Tony Green from the University of Cambridge and Dr Peter Campbell from the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, the research found that the CALR gene was found to be abnormal in 40% of MPN patients, in particular, this was found in the majority of patients with ET or MF that were negative for JAK2.

There is an article about this in the June 2014 edition of MPDlife, our newsletter, which is available on our website mpdvoice.org.uk/wp-content/...

I hope this helps, Maz.
