Hi Liarose

I have ET, and I look like I have been battered at times.

I have bruising all the time, sometimes as large as a hand print, and it can be on any part of my body, been like this for about 2 years now.

Spoke to my heamo and he says this is more or less normal as bruising is part of the ET, they call it 'bleeds'.

My heamo is absolutely brilliant so I trust him completely, so I dont think it something for you to worry about, but if you are still concerned just speak to your heamo, and hopefully he is a good as mine and will put your mind at rest.

Sorry I cannot give you any advice but just wanted you to know you are not alone with this problem.

Take care

Gwen

Hi, I have PV and get quite a bit of bruising which takes ages to go away if I am close to venesection. If you are worried though, ask your GP or haem. Kind regards Aime

Hi liarose, I have ET and am taking aspirin among others. When I collected my first doses of aspirin at the pharmacy the pharmacist warned me I could be more prone to bruises. And indeed I do have a lot of them. So it could also be an effect of aspirin if you are taking this. All the best, Yvonne

HI I HAVE PV I HAVE COME OUT WITH A LOT OF BRUISES MY HEMO SAID IT WAS THE ASPIRIN CAUSING IT ALL THE BEST

I too have an inordinate amount of bruising. I spoke to my haematologist who said that if I had it on my body rather than just my arms and legs it would be more cause for concern. I guess we just have to keep wearing trousers and thick black tights. I must admit in this recent hot weather I just had to put my legs on display for all to see. Not a pretty sight!

I also take aspirin and do notice that sometimes when my toes become sore I take an extra one as I know it gives instant relief but the bruising does get worse after this. I hasten to add that I was not advised to take an extra aspirin and do it off my own bat, so this is not advice for anyone and obviously we should always ok this with our consultant first. It was because before diagnosis I had severe erythromelagia with my toes turning purple and being too painful to walk and I really didn't want to repeat the experience.
