Questioning Cluster Headaches - Is it possible to get them with less severe pain?

Hi all,

Earlier this year for about 6 weeks I had recurrent headaches that felt like bad pain behind and around my right eye. They would happen multiple times a day but not last too long - between 30 mins and 3 hours. They they went away so I thought it was just a strange thing but it was gone and didn't think twice!

But unfortunately, last week they returned. The headaches are definitely not migraines. I am an occasional migraine sufferer and they are not at all similar. The headaches aren't associated with any visual disturbances, just pain around one eye which gets slightly puffy and watery.

From research it seems like this is very typical of cluster headaches, but I don't feel my pain is as severe as described. They are very painful but I wouldn't describe them as excruciating. However, I have a very high pain tolerance and did not have any pain when my appendix burst - I described it as uncomfortable, but not painful.

So my question is, is it possible that it could be cluster headaches, even though my pain is less extreme? And is there anyone else that has experienced similar?

Thank you in advance 😊

It is possible, as you say you have a high pain tolerance. For example, I deal with health issues that other people have said are really horrible and painful, but I’m able to function (the pain is just an annoyance to me), though I know it’s different.

I also deal with recurrent headaches that are similar to what you describe - they don’t give me excruciating pain but they’re quite painful (personally it feels like intense pressure around my face, mainly my eyes, and my neck is almost always sore no matter what I do). I personally think this might be a cluster headache thing, but I’m not sure.
