Any topiramate good news stories.? Really at wits end with meds and seems topiramate is all that is left to me. All I read is gloom and doom.

Works differently on everyone. I get some pins and needles but not most of other side effects and I can function as a person as I am not crippled by migraines all the time.

Curious how long you have been on it? I would bet that in a few years you will start to notice a change in your memory, You will start to forget things and this is directly linked to this medication. I am just warning you because I thought the same thing... oh all is good then smack. Just like the many people on this list. Please be careful, there is much better out there. I wish someone would have warned me and I would have stopped before the damage was done.

I have been taking Topiramate now for almost 4 years, have tried to come off but no other meds help migraine. My memory is worrying me now. It’s like fishing for a word or a name and it’s gone. Very worried and in present climate cannot speak to a doctor 😢

I am not sure how old you are or if you had memory issues before. But if you have no other reason, the medication is causing it. Please listen to Heads Up, podcast. They are UK migraine specialist that will help you. Are you taking other preventives? Can you pay to see a migraine Specialist? Not a Neurologist. Someone who only ser patients with migraines?

Good luck.

Hi, I have been taking topiramate for nearly two years now and it's been bliss. I suffer with several different types of migraines and I was barely functioning. I look after my disabled husband and elderly mother so life was stressful. But within a few days of taking them I noticed my morning nausea had gone. I have only had a handful of mild migraines since and I probably do get some of the side effects but it's hard to tell as I also have m.e and fibro. The effect is different for everyone I expect, with migraines I have found anything is worth a try. Good luck, feel better soon.

That’s so great to hear. What dose are you taking?

in reply toSparkygirl

I take one 50mg tablet at every night about 2 hours before bed as they can make you sleepy.

I’ve just started on 25mg so hopefully 50 will work for me too

Hi, I didn't realise morning nausea could be related to migraines! Thanks for sharing. My neurologist suggested this medication since I generally have a minor to major migraine everyday.

in reply toFWG12

Yes, morning nausea isn't always pregnancy lol. Unfortunately it can be an early warning sign of a migraine starting, or even part of a silent migraine.

I’ve been on topiramate for about 6 months, I get pins and needles in my hands, other than that no probs, and they have reduced my migraines!

That’s good news! What dose are you on?

50mg (2x25mg tabs, I take them at 6pm) but I get the pins and needles mainly when doing things like the washing up or washing my hair, just randomly through the day, or when I come In from out the cold, I think it may have something to do with temperature change for me

I take 200mg per day and I've taken it for 4 years, the side effect I've had is weight loss, Ive lost 2 stone but it eventually settled. Everything else is fine, it really works for me I have both migraines and epilepsy and topiramate is a med used for both. Hope it works for you, just keep your eye on it as you would any new med.

Hi Sparkygal I was also at my wits end with 3 weeks of migraine out of 4 (related to hormones). When I was refered to a consultant who advised Topiramate, to try for 6 months the differance was amazing I got my life back. I have tried to come off it but migrains are back with a vengence. I have reduced the dose to the lowest possible and have gone through the menapause so have an occasional migraine. I have been on it form 2014 with few effects, compared with the migraines, good luck with your treatment.
