Localized headaches/ occipital neuralgia

So about 3 weeks ago I started having this weird stabbing/ zapping headaches which were localized to one area of my head( the right side) the pain comes and goes in hurts and lasts for about 30 seconds however I have continuous full throbbing pain even after the stabbing pain. I have had an mri along with a cat scan which came back normal. I’ve been waiting to see a neurologist which won’t be till the end of December:/ I’ve done my research and am beginning to think this is occipital neuralgia.. has anyone experienced similar symptoms? Thanks!!

Occipital pain means its painful at the base of head at the back, where the skull curves in and the neck begins; the pain may spread further, usually up and over the scalp, but that's the point of origin. Does it hurt there if you press on it (or even if you don't) even if it is only one side? Where do you feel the stabbing pain - in your jaw? your temple? in your ear? back of the neck? I only ask because its not clear precisely where the stabbing pain is felt - what you describe does sound like neuralgia of some sort, but depending where it is,it might be another type, such as trigeminal neuralgia.

It’s so hard to describe lol because when the “zap” happened I literally felt sick to my stomach. However that has gone away and now it feels like a throbbing dull headache in the same spot. I would say it’s on the right more than half way on the back of my head closer to the top so like the mid to crown region if that makes sense! It only hurts where your “part your hair” like the middle of your head, feels tender. I don’t have any jaw pain, but my neck muscles we’re definitely tight! I also noticed a lot of breakage where my roots are and my head feels like it’s hot, but that comes and goes

I get that but I don't have migraines I've got epilepsy and I've assumed it's associated with that?

Oh I see! What were you r symptoms with epilepsy?

I just suddenly get an extremely painfully intense sharp stabbing pain in my head and it doesn't last very long usually on and off for a few minutes then I have a tender head feeling for a while.Sometimes I have a warning seizure after it(aura)

I haven't really paid attention to where the pain starts or if it's always the same place so I can't help with that.

Oh okay that makes sense. Did you have any other symptoms accompanied with it? Also what tests did they use to diagnose it?

Sometimes my head feels a bit like pins and needles after the stabbing pain and sometimes my head feels heavy but it all started with just the stabbing pain and different things happening after it over time.My neurologist said because I started to have an aura seizure after it it must be an aura seizure itself.

The only problem is it won't show on an EEG unless you're having the head pain at the time you're wired up which is only for 30-40mins

Did you get the pins and needles only on one side of your head or was it like all over? It’s so weird cause I’ve had this low grade fever for a month and a new symptom occurs everyday.. I don’t understand it. What other things happened over time like you mentioned?

It would start just where the stabbing pain was then spread all over the head, it would go down one side of my face and ear and travel right down my body to my foot and when I have that one I have an aura and then full on tonic clinic seizure.Another feeling I have after the stabbing pain is a heavy feeling on the top of my head, it feels like I'm wearing a really heavy helmet for 20 mins then the pins and needles then the aura which for me is usually either déjà vu or a feeling of fear.

Do you have any weird feelings during it or see anything?

Well mine is so weird because I’m getting really bad stomach aches with it. I’ve had a cat scan of my abdominal with contrast and everything was normal but I’ve also had this really weird facial and neck rash I can even explain what that is the cause of. The headaches are still there for sure but now I’m getting these weird symptoms accompanied by it and also muscle spasms and twitches throughout my whole body

Is it a particular part of your body that has the twitches or spasms? Or does it start at the same place?

It’s literally all over the place! Like my thighs and then my arms, I had a weird twitch in my chest and my face
