New, scary auras plus....

Hi,

On Boxing Day I was exhausted, so had no plans, just rest.

I got up late afternoon, within 10 mins I had a cluster headache, then auras started in and around my eyes. I prepared myself for the inevitable migraine. No migraine, but more cluster headaches. Then tremors, in arms, hands & legs, this went on & on. After 25 mins of uncontrollable shaking & shivering, I called NHS 24.

After much discussion an ambulance was sent, as they couldn't rule out a stroke. I knew I wasn't having a stroke, but I was concerned as the tremors went on for an hour. Paramedics checked me over, my blood pressure was high, but I wasn't having a stroke. It's now Wednesday afternoon & while I have improved, I'm still experiencing cluster headaches and auras, but no migraine. I also have horrible neuralgia.

Has anyone ever experienced anything like this?

Hi. What a horrid Christmas you have had. My husband has chronic clusters and takes verapamil daily with zomig when he gets a bad cluster. The only time he has had the tremors was when he overdosed on zomig as he was in so much pain he wasn't thinking straight. I really wish you well and hope 2017 is better for you xxx

Hi Catmag, I am not sure how you are distinguishing between cluster headaches and migraine, particularly if you are still experiencing aura too?

I have had tremors before, not all over as you describe, usually down just one side. These have also been accompanied by aura and headache. I was diagnosed with 'myoclonic juvenile epilepsy' as a result in my twenties after a couple of such incidents, but then had nothing further until twenty years later when again a couple of otherwise isolated incidents happened within a fortnight, this time labelled as non epileptic attack disorder, but nothing more these last four years.

I think both times the shaking was likely to be connected with the horrendous headache that followed.

When I saw a consultant during an inpatient stay at the National Hospital for Neurolgy and Neurosurgery a few years back for another neuro condition he told me that all of my headaches, including those with aura and sickness, those which come and stay for a week, those which cause partial body weakness, and those which are unremarkable but just like an acute ordinary headache (I call these my ME heads) were probably all migraine. And that the electrical activity in the brain was probably causing a whole host of symptoms, including my intermittent loss of leg function, my vertigo and balance problems, my proprioception difficulties, my loss of executive function.

All you can do, given that migraine an vary so much and cause such a range of symptoms beyond headache is keep an eye on it and if something happens whoch is not 'normal' and you are concerned ring for help, as you did. I have got to the stage now where there is no longer a 'normal' headache - leaves me in some ways thinking wistfully back to my teens where I knew that aura equalled vomiting, headache and being in bed for 24 hours but after that life would resume as normal...life was much more simple back then!

Thanks for the reply. I am distinguishing the migraines & cluster headaches because the cluster headache is an intense pain in one area of my head which lasts about 5 mins. These cluster headaches happen I different parts of my entire head.

It's now Thursday, I'm still getting these 'cluster' headaches, still got visual auras but no migraine yet. It's strange for me.

Hi Catmag

I get aura migraines with no pain after and I suffer from time to time with headaches but not with the auras. I have to see my Dr next week for a check up and I will mention them to her. I had an aura migraine five days out of six before Christmas with no migraine. I havent had one since (I say crossing my fingers).

I saw the optician today & she thinks is a visual migraine. I've never had 1 before, but I do have an appt at migraine clinic next week, so I will discuss it with them.

Yes I have had similar symptoms with auto immune disease. Horrific pain and stroke like isdues. I wonder if you have other health issues going on besides migraine?
