Quite often my migraines are triggered by physical exertion, is this a common factor? And apart from stopping exercise, is there

Hi, it's quite common for this to happen with migraine sufferers. What I do is make sure I warm up slowly and cool down slowly (I finish with couple of yoga moves) drink plenty of water before and during (you also can take a sports nutrition supplement to ensure you don't dehydrate ) and lastly take a nurofen or aspirin before you start .... I always do this now and hardly ever get a headache when exercising.

Another thing I,ve learnt is that sometimes I don't feel up to it and that's prob because a migraine is looming anyway , so I go walking instead :) keep it up it's good stress relief and so good for your head :)

Thank you for the reply, I will ibuprofen beforehand and see how it goes. Hydration is mandatory and not an issue neither is giving up the exercise!!

Ha Ha! Well I pushed it yesterday with an ibuprofen and half and halved water with coconut water. And bingo, all well, so fingers crossed and thank you, it may not work every time, who knows, I will settle for just some of the time!!

Good for you :) no doesn't always work for me but if you feel migraine starting you can take 200mg pottasium (supposed to be good after exercise anyway and good for reducing migraine severity)

you need to keep fluid and blood sugar levels up, so you need to have slow release carbs.

please note if you start to take ibuprofen every day you will end up with rebound headaches.

I think that this is commonly known as exertion headache and I get it frequently after exercise. I read somewhere that taking a small dose of ergotamine (in Cafergot or Migril) just before exercise can help. It SOMETIMES helps me.This is prescription medication so you will have to discuss it with your doctor anyway.
