I recently had botox for migraine and have really struggled with continual migraine since. How was your botox response?

I had Botox in August, 2012. The injections were incredibly painful (they are supposed to be painless) and my migraines became worse. I was miserable for two months until it wore off. Apparently that is very rare. I must say that Botox was not the treatment for me. I understand what you are going through and wish you well.

Hi

Years ago I went on it a few times after bouts of Medication Over-Use Headaches - and it worked well for me with very few side effects. Obviously it's just a stop gap, well that's how I was told it would work for me - and it did break the cycle I was in at the time and helped me get over MOH. Hope it helps you.

hi victoriaS , this is reasurring after reading all the side effects. i was treated for M O D before my botox and strangely i was better in the first 3 weeks than than the last 4 which is the opposite to how it should be! i really need something to break this pain cycle. in the last 4.5 months ive had 4 headache free days but its been going on for about 18 month! how long were you on this for and what dose? thanks for any tips

I had taken prednisolone one time about 8 years ago. It seemed to reset my system, however, it took more than the 10 days of pills to do so...

hi laura, sorry to hear how bad you feel i do understand. i was given naproxen my the london migraine clinic for coming of all tablets (m o d)before my botox. still after7 weeks of no meds my migraines were no better so oviously not medication over use. but now after the botox they are telling me to take stuff every day!!! is that why you have not tryed them yet. i do take naratriptan for when they are at there very worse. i find they take longer to work than some triptans but take it away, however it always returns about 8 hrs later and this goes on for about 3-4 days.i would give them a go so you get some relief even if its short. do you take any anti depressants? i feel fed up and low with it to and keep thinking this cannot be helping! x

Hi Laura, yes, I have been on prednisone, twice. Like everything in the migraine world it seems that some things work for a few and mostly don't work for the rest of us. My first experience with prednisone was in the hospital after an attack, they told me that it would help ward off another attack for a few days. Well, I am a chronic daily sufferer, and no, it did not help.

My second experience was in the pill form prescribed by my then neurologist. She was trying to stop the cycle of continuous daily migraines. She gave me a dose for 7 days. I felt like I was DYING. Towards the end of the week I made an appointment with my GP, but could only get in for the following monday. When I went to see her she said yes, the prednisone had likely wiped out my immune system, thus why I felt like crap (why don't the doctors tell you this is gonna happen??). She sent me for blood work, which confirmed this. It took me a full week to recover to a regular level. I still had daily migraines through-out. So, for me, prednisone is a steroid that I would steer clear from, especially long doses.

There is so little help for us out there, that I know that we are all willing to try anything and everything, so I would never say don't try x,y,z but be try to be aware as possible of all the possible side effects. I have now been through all of the antidepressants, and more and am mostly going it alone with Imitrex, DHE, and nerve blocks. I hope that we all find peace one day.

Best of luck with the prednisone.

xxxx

Sara
