Liz, I survived!

As a toddler I contracted meningitis. My parents thought I had chickenpox as my whole body was covered in a bright red rash.My condition deteriorated and I was admitted to Bury hospital for infectious diseases. Here I was given a lumber puncture and placed in an oxygen tent.I was very poorly and the priest was sent for and I was given the last rites.Luckily due to the wonderful NHS I pulled through.l was in hospital for a very long time and had to learn to walk again as I had been in bed and not mobile. When I did eventually leave dad took me to Butlins to help me convalece. So nearly 67 years later I remain healthy but still suffer from sensitivity in my eyes to bright lights.Meningitis is such a serious life taking desciese but thankfully I survived tell the tale!
