Acute Bacterial Meningitis: hi guys my dad... - Meningitis Now
Acute Bacterial Meningitis
Hi there. I am sorry to hear about your dad. Yes, I had a similar experience but much worse. It took me a very long time to recover. However, everyone is different. Best thing you can do is support him and be patient in terms of his recovery. I hope he feels better soon.
Hi, I was diagnosed with the same 11 weeks ago and spent 7 weeks in hospital having been a very fit 64 year old where it came out of nowhere. I am, and will be dealing with the consequences for several months to come. Some sort of recovery is measured in months not weeks. I suffered major hearing loss due to inner ear damage and benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, which is extremely frustrating as it affects everything you do. A week ago I saw a vestibular therapist who has given me some eye exercises to help deal with this and they have made an improvement already. Also it is worth calling meningitis helpline (they are online) who should help and explain things. I am lucky to alive and not have limbs amputated, it was that bad but it doesn’t lessen the trauma for those who have suffered and close family also. Be positive.
It's different for everyone☘️☘️☘️ Sorry for you guys😞💕
Hello . Really sorry about your dad, is he still in hospital?
I had bacterial meningitis, I fell ill 20th February, and still suffering the after effects. I was an active 42 year old firefighter, but everything changed after contracting bacterial meningitis.
I spent two weeks in hospital the first in isolation on intensive care.
The headaches were the worst ever, I was on antibiotics and pain relief alll the time I was in hospital.
It can take along time to recover from this illness and differ from person to person. I recieved a lot of helpful information from this site and from meningitis now. (Christine Hughes).
I found that I was very confused in hospital, and even more so when and after the consultants had been and gone.
Just make sure your dad is getting the best treatment in hospital. The best for your dads recovery.
Hi sorry your dad has had this hideous sickness.
Everyone is different in their recovery. Your dad should be listening to his body. It is a must to do what you feel like doing. If you want to sleep, sleep. You and the family should allow him to do what he feels like doing. Support from you and the rest of the family is a must.
Bye Jenny
l had bacterial menningitis 18 months ago from a cold. lt takes time, my revovery was nearly a year and now only nearly back to normal.
l was 46 and it changed everything in my life and glad to say just a memory now.
Be patient in his recovery. On the outside he will look better but on the inside it takes the brain a long time to get back to normality.
Best wishes
