Regarding taking on deputyship of financial and property for your adult child. Is it burdensome with the accounting involved?

In our son’s case it’s been relatively straightforward but it will depend on individual circumstances. We had a couple of telephone calls with the Office of the Public Guardian at the start but these were fairly light touch. We just keep a record of all our son’s incomings and outgoings and the reason for each, especially if it is a high cost amount. The Office of the Public Guardian asks us to fill a report in once a year which is just a series of questions to answer. Hope this helps.

I concur with what BlueSky444 says - this is very much my experience also. I tend to keep quite detailed records, and receipts, in case of any query but actually the annual report has been simplified from what it was the first time I reported , and is pretty light touch now. I think whether or not you feel it is burdensome depends largely on your experience and confidence with accounting. It isn't difficult, but if not familiar territory I guess it could be a bit stressful. The OPG are there to help with any issues or queries. Good luck!
