I'm a person with an LD. I worry about myself not getting disability benefits?

The government want to make it harder for disabled people to get benefits. I live in supported living with a big care package plus I go to a NHS day centre for people with LD's/ Also I have a serious psychotic disorder and been sectioned 15 times over the years on a section 3's. also on a community treatment order so have to take the antipsyctic injection by law otherwise the police take to me hospital, mainly ATU's. Should I be worried about my benefits. Had no problems with them in 20 years but the government want to male calming harder for disabled peeps.

I don’t think you need to worry at all. Honestly I know it’s scary when you hear things like this but please try not to as you have genuine issues so you will be ok.

I agree with Jo fisher. I think the government just want to stop people who are abusing the system and trying to get money they don’t deserve because they don’t have serious problems. I think they’re trying to protect the system for you.

My experience has been that the government has been very fair about disability benefit entitlements.

If you have to apply for or re-apply for a specific benefit and you are worried, I'd suggest you look for help from an organisation such as the Citizen's Advice Bureau (CAB) or maybe Turn2us. Sometimes they will have people who have experience filling in the forms in a way that helps the benefits assessor understand your condition.

I have a LD social worker and community nurse who help me. Plus I have a deputy so I've never filled out a DLA/PIP form in my 20 years claiming. The last time I went to an assessment the assessor told my supported living manager he could she I was seveiosly disabled and my money would remain the same, he said if they had the letter my community wrote I would not of been called to the assessment, it was the only assessment I've been to in 20 years.

I have a children's social worker when I was a kid and they filled all the DLA and I have never had a problem getting benefits. I went to a special school. It's just worrying times as I'm worried about being homeless. I live in supported living though, will this help with me not being made homeless?

I can't say for sure what your personal arrangements are, but I'd guess for most people in your position if you asked about how all the money works, the home is usually paid for by a method that will stay in place regardless of benefit changes in the newspaper headlines.

My brother, for example, is in a similar home and won't be affected by the headlines about benefits.

I'm no expert, but I agree with the people on here saying don't worry! Headlines might not be about your situation.
