ehcp being removed?

can anyone give me advice. My daughter is 20 and currently gets both education and social care support ( as well as mental health support). The education provider says they can’t offer her more and that can’t recommend education provider. This was at her ehcp review. So BBC all her support would come via social care. Does this mean less funding for her? I feel concerned about her losing her ehcp San feel it’s key to access support and maybe funding. Am I right to be concerned?

Thanks

Have you seen online site, 'The Nurture Programme ' take a look & press 'follow'There is a whole shakeup of the system, including SEND. Also the Social Care I believe are getting more Funding! So it could be that this is change happening in Ehcp. I would call MENCAPs help line. Also ask your Council etc. Hope this helps

I think you’re right to be concerned. Local authorities are really strapped for cash and are trying very hard to cut out vulnerable people from being entitled to the support that would benefit them. The EHCP is enforceable legally, certainly the education provision, and the government are trying to help people to get care provision assessed via the EHCP - so of course the local authority will try to get the EHCP terminated. You should be able to get advice from your local SENDIASS or from IPSEA. Your daughter is entitled to have an EHCP until she’s 25 so long as she hasn’t yet entered higher education and is still making progress towards SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time-specified) outcomes as written on the EHCP, and so long as there’s a setting that can offer the provision described in the EHCP. So you need to look at the EHCP and think what outcomes you want for your daughter, what outcomes she wants, and what provision she needs. Try other FE colleges such as Capel Manor College or the Harrington Scheme both of which promote independence. Some residential settings have really helped some students, but there’s a risk that in a residential setting she may drift and receive insufficient support to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Chickenshed Theatre run an inclusive BTEC course in Performing Arts, and they do support learners with very complex needs. Also your daughter could do a supported internship which would help her gain practical skills for the workplace. They take people who have an EHCP. There are lots of different providers. Mencap does a supported internship programme. One does that for one year or two, and after that one does lose one’s EHCP even if not yet 25.

I was told my daughter isn’t suitable for supported internship because she needs to be able to do role 80%! Unsupported… is that right?

Hi my son is with Mencap on the supported internship scheme and he’s just informed me that this ends in June! I had no idea. He hasn’t found a placement yet and I suspect it’s unlikely he will between now and June. Are you saying it will cease after a year and so to will his EHCP 😳?

I’m really worried now!

I'm guessing they're planning on ceasing her education in July? This isn't nearly enough time to find another provider, many will already be full for September. I would get legal advice.
