As mum to a young woman with significant learning difficulties I know that some of our children will never be able to look after themselves, they will always be dependent on others to support them and do for them the things they cannot manage. It is difficult as a parent, as you worry about what will happen to them when you are gone, but it is a fact of life. All we can do is support them to be as (safely) independent as they can be, and ensure that they have the right support from other family members and external agencies so they can live fulfilled lives, be happy and safe.

Firstly Hi there, my Son is now 33yrs old. To start with for them to become as independent as possible is Good for them & we will be gone one day, but we can with Organisations, set them up with Gp, Support, Carer, AMHT, Adult Social Care, Occupational Therapist, Care Coordinator, on-going Monitoring, keeping an eye on their Capacity. making sure Housing, local Council, Police etc are Awre Vulnerable person. Next of Kin & Emergency Contacts. NAS Card my Son wears around his Neck which has my contact details on & he is Registered with NAS. Wessex Autistic Society, Scope aswell. Online Autism Chats & info.
