Hi. Just wondering if anyone knows about grants that can be given to a learning disabled young man on benefits who has moved into their own accommodation and needs furniture and other equipment in their home. Thanks
Grants for furniture and equipment: Hi. Just... - Mencap
Grants for furniture and equipment
I would speak to your local voluntary organisation and the mencap helpline and your local council information point as they should have a wealth of knowledge to share with you.
Your welcome
Local Council are usually the people to contact, or ask his benefit provider eg universal credit or PIP.
Depending where he lives the Heart Foundation have charity shops selling second hand furniture and all things needed, might help.
Thank you. I’ll take a look
Would be nice if people donated to a site that could help special needs people within their area. I've donated a lot of good furniture to the Heart Foundation. I thought I had also heard of Council's directing people to places where they could get cheap 2nd hand furniture. I don't have much faith in Social Workers but you never know there might be one that could have some info and point you in the right direction. Good luck. What area are you? I'm in East London.
If hes going to get broadband dont forget to ask for the social tariff for those on benefits. (You will need NI number )Basic broadband £15pm on low income benefits. £20 for higher download speeds for those into gaming . I believe I read today that openreach have committed to connect those on PIP free of charge so you might be able to negotiate a lower line connection/equipment fee. I'm going to ask BT and sky about it when I sign my son up.
Thank you. I learned about the warm home discount today which is a one off discount on your fuel bills. You need to register with your energy provider and the application will only open in September apparently. Every little bit helps though.
I’ve never heard of this, do you know what service providers use this and can you provide any more info please. Thankyou
Hi. It’s on the gov.Uk website. Google warm home discount. It will give you the option to choose the gov.Uk website. When you get there it tells you about the scheme snd the energy providers are also listed. The page referred to last winter but I’m going to lobby my energy provider to give it to my son. It’s £140. There should be a scheme for this winter so look out.
NSZMER can you tell me a little more info about this as I’ve never heard of it. Is it recognised by all providers, thankyou
