I thought you might find the Connecting Safely Online hub - internetmatters.org/connect... useful.

This is for parents, carers, and young people with additional learning needs to help you find out how to safely use social media. It was developed with Facebook.

The is also a guide you can download here -internetmatters.org/inclusi...

If you would like to find out more these are both on the Internet Matters website - internetmatters.org/

Best wishes

Sarah

ive had a look at the video for people with young people with additional needs to see what its like and it says about social media hacking, ive always thougt this line (which is used often) scares people more than it shoud do because sites like facebook do not keep passwords in an online database-they are saved on the persons own computer.

((unless there is a hacker-who is cookie hijacking-which is unlikely theyre going to bother for a random social media user,or has put a RAT (remote admin tool) or key logger on the computer (through the user clicking on bad stuff or downloading dodgy software), the only way theyre getting through is by guessing the password-so theres no actual hacking, the problem is lots of people use easy passwords, perhaps keep passwords written in a book kept at home for the person)).

id also add that if someone seems exactly like you in every way,and it seems like they may be the best friend ever be careful of this as they coud be grooming you, this is a form of manipulating used by people to make others feel able to open up to them and give them something-information,money, etc, they base themselfs on their target ,using their likes, dislikes, disabilities, medication names or equipment you use, life experiences etc, they may use their posts or blogs to get their info, i can say this from my own experiences as a victim of a very unwell person online.

also, different forms of cyberbullying- trolling, stalking, DOXing and even SWATing is happening to a lot of vunerable adults across the world, which has resulted in lives ruined and deaths (an autistic person sadly died a couple of days ago),theres an huge petition on change right now about cyberbullying of vunerable adults.

i dont mean to scare people by saying what cyber bullying can mean but ive experienced it and also seen it happen on instagram,to a friend of a friend-she has been stalked and abused over and over by a guy, shes autistic and was at a very vunerable point when he last did it.

i report any cyber bullying i see on sites, you never know if the person knows what to do,is in the right mental state to do, or has the capacity to do, and it also backs up victims incase bullies edit their posts.
