I understand people not wanting to touch money at the moment but many people with a learning disability don't have a cash card and only understand money. It is going to be a nightmare for us.

The whole managing of finances with Learning Disabilities needs an overhaul. Too many grey areas and unclear guidance from the top down. This is mainly around appointees and their responsibility but also services can end up managing aspects of finances that could be overreaching due to lack of guidance and support or even the desire to push independents and be positive risk taking.
For some it might help them have greater control of their money and others it could leave them needing more support and funding and ending up with more restrictive practices. Also where service users are in routines with money there is a natural unwillingness from all parties to push for card use/skills, because why mess with a system that is working and who is going to fund extra hours when service users needs are being met with another system. So there might be a tipping point with this where practices change and services might start with card training from the beginning of support as its deemed and essential skill.
I can also see situations where more service users will end up having to have appointees or current appointees actually having to fulfill their responsibilities. That might seem more restrictive but in the give service users more freedom around actual day to day spending. although that might be a dream outcome I’m sure the cheaper option (For local authorities and services) will be more restrictive practice around finances and if there is no push back from service users and parents this will become the norm.
