Question for anybody who’s interested

I know i’m not the best when it comes to asking for help (I’m far to stubborn for my own good sometimes), but after a day in hospital and several stitches later I think its time to.

As independent as i am, part of my condition is it affects my motor skills and strength in my hands (i have Hydrocephalus), and I ended up cutting my hand open quite badly opening a tin at lunchtime. Does anybody have any suggestions of what i can buy that will help me with this issue? As its not the first time it’s happened where ive struggled, but it is the first real serious injury I’ve had.

Thanks 🤕

Was it a ring-pull or one which had to be opened with a tin opener Robert? The latter are difficult & dodgy! You can get electronic tin openers - they work by a magnet attaching itself to the tin, & then circles round, cutting as it goes. Somewhere like Argos would have one at a reasonable price. Hope this helps - take care! x

Yes it was, the ring bit was a bit iffy and it shot backwards cutting my hand, so an electric one sounds pretty good. Thank you

Hi, welcome to the group. How is your hand? It's so easy to do isn't it, I sliced my thumb open once opening a tin of corned beef, so painful. I've had a look and one item that stands out is Morphy Richards multifunctional can opener £24.95 on Amazon.co.uk. it has excellent reviews re easy to use, quality, fit for purpose etc. There are also several online stores that stock easy to use kitchen gadgets, pill/bottle openers etc.

1. Completecareshop.co.uk

2. essentialaids.com

3. manageathome.co.uk

I hope this is helpful and prevents anymore badly cut hands! Very best wishes.

Well I’ve gotten stitches now so just need time for my hand to heal, I’ll definitely check out these though if it will make my life easier
