managing periods in a profoundly disabled 13 year old

Our 13 year old foster daughter is profoundly disabled, completely dependent on others for all her needs, a wheelchair user, registered blind and doubly incontinent.

The school nurse has said we should be putting sanitary towels into her nappies for period times. I am dubious about doing this as think that will interfere with the purpose of the nappy which works well.

Has anyone had experience of managing this please?

Hi. Does your foster daughter have a social worker? Or perhaps talk to her GP and ask about the pill or other options that might reduce or stop periods. I hope you get some more options so you can work out what works best for her.

Hello Happyrainbow

We have a list of useful links and resources about sexuality and resources that includes some info about menstruation:

mencap.org.uk/sites/default... which includes resources on menstruation.

I hope one of these might help.

Thanks

Sarah

I worked as a carer for two years personally if placing female hygiene products in along with "nappies" works then you can get different types ie liners alternative I suppose a solution could be "period pants" can be purchased online so then for period times go with the "period pants" then the "nappy" over that. Or a small pad in place where blood flow so it doesn't interfere with nappy
