As far as I know newborn's move their arms and legs or cry during REM sleep, how would I know if he is in a REM sleep or awake? If he is in a REM sleep I wouldn't want to wake him up by holding him so I think it is a crucial thing for new moms.
Any tips would be appreciated
thanks

Hi Bixteth, that’s a really interesting question 🤔 Babies do make noise and wriggle while they’re asleep, you’re right, I think personally I would be inclined to leave them to it if they’re just wriggling/kicking and making intermittent noises like grunts or the odd shout or even a bit of whimpering as they may well quiet down and continue sleeping peacefully. If the crying starts to ramp up though I would probably pick baby up and comfort them. If they were getting close to needing a feed I would likely assume that is the cause of the disturbance!
