Hi Lynae,

Did you get cancer from the eylea injections? I just started with eylea and now I have a concern. Please keep us informed of any information you have. I hope all is well with you UPDATE: I found a study about it from the FDA causing skin cancer! "Skin cancer is found among people who take Eylea, especially for people who are male, 60+ old , have been taking the drug for < 1 month, and have Age-related macular degeneration." There is a Eylea and Skin cancer support group on eHealthMe.com. My doc never mentioned this to me. There is lots of information on ehealthme.com/ds/eylea/skin....

Hello RandyM,

That is very interesting and Im glad you shared it. My Dr. didn't mention skin cancer either.

I'm not sure how I got inoperable stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer at 54? My Dr. is trying to get my insurance to pay for a family history blood test for cancer to see if it's in our genes. I've been a health nut all my life so I'm confused of how I got this. The only thing new was that I was getting the Eylea injections. Please don't worry, I have no proof that it caused it. Both of my eyes are in remission but the next week I found out I had this cancer. It's so scary, I'm fighting for my life.....and here I thought I was going to go blind. I've been doing alot of praying. Eylea works

Lynae, I am so sorry to hear of your Pancreatic cancer. I wonder if eylea was a factor, but more research is needed. You can call the company who makes eylea (Regeneron) and see the many publications on this drug. regeneron.com/scientific-pu... PS: I had a friend with pancreatic cancer at age 80 and her doc said it was inoperable too, but with aggressive chemo/radiation she came through it. I will keep you in my prayers. Never give up Hope and Faith. They are strong determinants. I have leukemia and feel my hope has kept me chemo free, for now at least. Hugs and prayers to you my dear...

I was visited by the Holy Spirit in January, he placed his warm hand on my tumors and I saw a BRIGHT GOLDEN LITE that was wrapped all around my biggest tumor for a few seconds then the warmth and lite was gone. It's a healing miracle from God!! Hope and faith are leading me and my Dr. to VICTORY! I can't wait to tell my story at my church and to anyone who needs to hear it. GOD IS THE GREAT HEALER.I'm GLAD your chemo free and I will pray for you as well. Thank U

Per the macular society there is no evidence of this so I'm closing my question

Thanks for this randym. I had a look and the report is created by ehealth just using raw info from fda. That's very different from an fda report I would say and potentially misleading. Probably why it's not formally listed as a side effect by drs and datasheet ie not robust. Personally I wouldn't worry.

Also, the stats given are much lower than the general risk of skin cancer ( as reported at cancer.org and aad.org) and based on less than 7K people ( of which the 11 affected all seem to fall into already recognised risk factors separate from their eyelea use) so I don't know if it's actually statistically significant.

Of course, it's not unheard of for new side effects to come to light down the line but i would have thought it's been used for long enough for a significant cancer link to have been recognized by now.

I'm happy to be corrected.

eyesright, I looked over ehealth again and I see how it can be misleading. I research a lot and it is so hard to find a trustworthy site. I have an older PDR, but eylea is fairly new, so it wasn't in it. Thanks for the info!

Per the macular society there is no evidence to support me claim. I'm so happy and have closed the case

I have had 80 eye injections, Avastin, Lucentis and the implant Ozurdex, due to suffering eye cancer (choroidal melanoma) I have never come across anyone being diagnosed with a cancer as a result of injections.

Per the macular society there is no evidence of this so I'm closing my question. All is good

Hi Lynae

I am so sorry to hear of your massive dilemma. My heart goes out to you. May I ask how long you have been getting the eylea treatment?

It is the nature of pancreatic cancer to show no symptoms until the advanced stages, (stage 4) and although not lying dormant it will have been been slowly progressing inside your body for some time without you being aware of it, as is the case with some other cancers. I believe, but stand to be corrected, that the eylea treatment is co-incidental, for, considering the millions of people all over the world receiving this drug for quite a number of years now, there surely would be more evidence against it. Keep us informed if the family gene tests are carried out.

I wish you the very best for any life-prolonging treatment you may receive. Bless you, Lynea!

Ayayay, my tumor was fast growing. The Dr. doesn't think it's been there very long. In between my PET SCAN AND CAT SCANS the tumor grew 1 centimeter in 11 days. At its largest was 5.2 centimeters. My Eylea injections stopped in May and by October I was diagnosed stage 4. It's so strange during that time we were on a 2 month vacation having the time of our lives then BAM CANCER. Thanks for the prayers

Hi Lynae,

We have had a word with our research expert here at the Macular Society.

Eylea is a blood vessel inhibitor and is really a type of cancer treatment (don't be alarmed, as macular degeneration is not a cancer!)

We can find nothing on the risk of getting cancer from Eylea (aflibercept).

No studies have been conducted on the mutagenic or carcinogenic potential of Eylea.

See the following link for more information;

ema.europa.eu/ema/index.jsp...

Best wishes
