i was prescribed areds 2 'viteyes' both in Hampshir5e and East Sussex but Dorset refuse to prescribe it. Hopeless. My dr.told me to buy it but it will cost 15% of my pension and I feel very upset and angry about it.

Hello Bedith6,

Can I assume that you have the dry variety of macular degeneration?

As Mary Parry mentioned; you can sometimes get a vitamin supplement such as 'Viteyes' or 'MacuLEH Light' on the NHS, but this is rare as supplements are not classified as medicines. It is worth asking your GP however.

Please see our booklet, 'Nutrition and Eye Health' at the following link for more information;

Hello I have the wet M.D in one eye and dry in the other. I have now looked at the cost of the supplements and as I only have the state pension I will not be able to afford them. Kind Regards

After asking for it my gp gives me Macushield as my brvo macular oedema is still acute but she will not give it my hubby as his brao stabilised years ago. So I buy his from Boots when they have a bogof offer on.

It's wrong that some counties will prescribe but others won't if there's no clinical reason not to. So much for no postcode lottery.

yes I found the Boots offer- saves a third but still costly. My GP said it's because it's not been proven to help but I think it's wise to take it anyway!

Lol, I'm still on hols x Madeira is lovely, we first came 25 years ago. Its been a real balm. Unfortunately my ear has flared up again so am using drops and painkillers and keeping out of the wind. Hopefully won't have to see a doc.until we get home.
