Hi Carol,

Iressa is not chemotherapy. It is an agent taken in tablet form one each day. It is used to treat non small-cell lung cancers. The agent acts to block the cancer cells ability to divide. It is not a cure and eventaully stops working. The longest I've heard of is a lady who survived 8 years until recently. I am in my 29th month since diagnosis. A genetic test showed that I was suitable and I started on Iressa in January 2011. If you want you can contact me on nic.eivors@gmail.com.

Best wishes,

annecarmel

Hello Carol,

I am also on Iressa, and have been for 7 months. If you are going on this treatment and need advice re: side effects, please contact me, but the most wonderful thing is, it can make you feel absolutely well again - for a time, of course no one knows what length of time. I look on it as a wonderful opportunity to have a very good life, while I can - I have cancer in both lungs and it was looking pretty bad when I was diagnosed. Here I am 7 months later enjoying my life - which by the way, I appreciate so very much more.

Very best wishes, Jenny

Hi Carol, I started on Iressa on 6th August last year and had two Ct scan and both have shown all my tumours have shrunk significantly. My oncologist says I could be on Iressa for 18 months to 10 years. All I know is that I am very well. Some of my side effects have changed since I first started on Iressa,. Now my skin is not so dry, my fingers have splits in my skin each side of my nails, which is very painfull. My nails are also very weak. I think I am lucky that my side effects haven't been too bad. I stay positive which I think is very important! If you would like to know more you can contact me by email it's gina1 hodgkins@gmail.com very best of wishes Georgie x
