I had a pneumonectomy 2 years ago. Doing fine. I was amazed how many people thought that was the end when you got lung cancer. Treatment has improved dramatically. We need to let the public know it is no worse than any other disease.

What I have learnt after bouts of radio / chemotherapy and then the removal of my left lung that I have a "managed" condition. Since the above, I have been diagnosed with a brain tumour. Fortunately, in my case, gamma knife surgery was available and from the results last week, I've been told the tumour has shrunk. I am now on Crizotinib for my lung cancer and like the gamma knife surgery, the tumours that appeared elsewhere in my body after my lung removal have shrunk. If I had been diagnosed earlier that I needed Crizotinib then the lung surgery would probably not have been needed. My consultant informs me that the tumours are being contained but there is no certainty they will always remain in check. Hence, my assertion that my condition is being managed. All the time I am in this situation drugs are being discovered that will help me and others in the future. Time is what we need and at the moment I am positive I can live with this condition for many years to come.

The Stigma is the main thing with LC.... as soon as "smoking" mentioned the stigma will stay rife... so sad no one even listens..and 90% of the so called "orgs" are in bed with each other so thats why not a lot of funding either...... we can only hope research and for early detection will be offered in the near future

hugs and Love to you xo
