New drug approved for patients with MET mutation.

As most of you know, I like to keep my eye on the newly approved treatments against the day I experience progression. And I like to share what I learn in the hopes it helps someone. There have been so many changes in the last few years it needs to be out there so patients can find it and advocate for themselves.

Maybe a stupid question but would this genetic mutation show up on a standard genetic test or does it require a special test?

It depends on the standard of care at your hospital. Some only test for 3-4 others for many more. As much as you have been through you should have them screen for this and many others. I’ll try to find the list of genetic mutations for which there are targeted therapies and post it.

I had about 30 things on the test panel they did, but was told that there is no genetic test for lung ca. Not sure if they tested for any mutations for lung ca - will check and let you know

That’s correct. There is no genetic test for lung cancer like there is for Brca 1/2 in breast cancer or Lynch Syndrome in colorectal cancer. The testing that is done for genetic mutations that are Linked to lung cancer is called genomic testing. It’s easy to get the two confused.

With the many cancers you have I’m surprised they didn’t find something. There’s still so much we don’t know.

Denzie I am very grateful to people like you who put in a lot of time to keep us informed and up to date. If we could have a topic area dedicated to developments in drug therapy and possibly any other therapy that is of value to treatment it would be of great help. This information could then be collected in one place that is quick and easy to access. Thank you again for the work that you do.

Thank you, Sally. I was approached by the Go2 Foundation to volunteer on their National Advisory Council. One of the things they are acting on Immediately is to find other patient advocates who have an identified Mutation and treatment. The goal is to be able to tag them to answer questions about their experience.
