Oral Prednisone has worked very well for me in the past, as a short-term adjunct during exacerbations to daily treatment with inhaled corticosteroids (now, a triple-drug inhaler, with fluticasone furoate, umeclidinium, and vilanterol) albuterol, as needed, and Xolair injections. However, each individual is different and the benefit should outweigh the potential side effects. In my case, the side effects have been: elevated blood glucose; cataracts; and osteoporosis/osteopenia. This is a decision that requires careful consideration on an individual basis with one's Pulmonologist, Allergist, or PCP.
