I’d say a family member who had asthma & COPD, online and my doctor. I’d say the most informational source would be my doctors.
Online sources by far have been most helpful.
I have found following postings here and foundation site leads check out a treatment or tool someone used. Most recently, through this survey, I was forced to look at how my asthma is managed. Do more online research, have questions for pulmonary doc and learn new tools to help myself.
Learning from others that truly understand and want to help themselves improve.
Oneline support groups and searching online health sites. When I first got asthma I knew nothing. My doctors told me nothing. Thank God for online support groups and online health websites
I have learned from talking to other people and googling info. I have learned some from my doctors.
Most definately online, articles an online support groups
Definately online ... from articles from webmd to Mayo clinic, also support groups . Unfortunately my drs have been less than helpful. They dont have time to listen. Its beyond frustrating.
AAFA has been a tremendous resource for me. I also read many articles by NHI.
Hmm, that’s a tough one, since I was born with it and knowledge about asthma and medicines have changed. I’d have to say my parents, because they wanted to know as much about it as possible, growing up. Then Doctors, then reading, and other people that have it.
My dr who is an asthma specialist locally has probably been the best source other than that it is what I read on here
Definitely online! The doctors seem too busy but do give good seeds to research. Support groups are fantastic! It is living breathing information!
Definitely online. My Doctors office is so busy and they see so many patients that I don't feel they give you their full attention. I have to make it a point to stop him from rushing out of the room just to get some questions in. Coming here to see what others are dealing with and to hear their experiences, and being able to share with people who really understand has been extremely helpful to me.
Learning from my own experiences with treatments and meds.
Almost all my information had been from on line. It’s almost like a second job.
Hi Putnam,
I laughed when you said it's almost like a second job. It definitely is! How do you decide on best source information? Any favorites you can share??
Thank,
Mary
You know, I just read it all. Sometimes I think I know more than the doctors. You really have to educate yourself. Doctors can’t spend a lot of time with clients/patients, so it’s up to you. Actually thinking of moving out of New York, at least for the winters. The in door air is a killer for me.
Thanks. I believe in educating myself too. My doc is a great listener and welcomes information I find. Still, we are our best advocates.
I live in country, 155 acres. The woods can be an issue (I mask outside) but getting out of City pollution has been a definite plus!!
Unless your doctor has asthma, you probably do more.
Online and through my doctor
For me, WEB MD. I’ve leatned so much there and it was always confirmed by my PCP, who knew my asthma inside out and backwards, as accurate. (Unfortunately she has relocated. I’m having a hard time replacing her!)
WebMD, Google and now HealthUnlocked.
I'm 27 years old few older adults in my family have cold. I learned I had asthma was I was 4. It gotten worse in 2009 and in 2012 I was put on a ventilator. Everybody under me(family) gotten asthma. But I learned all my sources from my doctor than I found a support group. It's better hear from people who has asthma because everybody asthma does them different
The Pulmonology Rehab Department at St. Thomas Rutherford. They are staffed with respiratory therapists, RN's, and physiotherapists. They treat all of you! And their support group is great.
