As already discussed with you on BLT forum, a score of 49 and over was the baseline for transplant listing in the UK although many other factors are also included. It is a calculation based on the following:- The UKELD score is calculated from the patient's INR, serum creatinine, serum bilirubin and serum sodium, according to the formula:

(5.395 x In INR) + (148.5 x In Creatine) + (3.13 x In Bilirubin) - (81.565 x In Sodium) + 435

It is a clinical tool to predict mortality but it's only a guide not a definite - Higher UKELD scores equate to higher one-year mortality risk. A UKELD score of 49 indicates a 9% one-year risk of mortality, and is the minimum score required to be added to the liver transplant waiting list in the U.K. (exept in cases of liver cancer where it isn't considered) A UKELD score of 60 indicates a 50% chance of one-year survival.

Information on criterion for listing can be found on NHS Blood and Transplant Site at:- nhsbt.nhs.uk/organ-transpla...

No need to apologise. You'll just not get many different answers about this on this forum as most of the active members are also the ones posting on the BLT one.

Katie :)
