Hi, I understand how you feel. When I was found out I had lymphedema I was so sad. Sometimes I would think I would rather have my arm removed than have lymphedema. But as I learned more about it I realized it is similar to other chronic diseases like diabetes. It takes following a system of care and maintanence that becomes routine. When I was really upset I would try imagining that I had lost my arm in an accident and how hard it would be to do things with one arm. Then I would imagine that my arm was a prosthesis that I wore so I wouldn’t have to do everything with only one arm. This would make me feel better about having to wear a sleeve as soon as I got up in the morning and do massage every night. Over time it got better.
You don’t say what type you have. Secondary or primary? Leg or arm? What medical help are you getting?
Hello 16 years. Google Lipoedema Uk, join the society, you will get an information pack and if you can do attend the next conference in 2019. You will meet other teenagers with the same problem, gets loads of support, information and practical help. You can get leaflets, and information which you can take to your doctor. You may find that your GP knows little about it, but he/she can learn. Good luck with it.
On Facebook join Talk Lipoedema Private Chat you will find lots of info and support. Has your GP referred you to a local Lymphoedema Clinic. They will measure you there for compression. Compression is not easy to wear but if you persevere it could stop the progression of Lipoedema. It’s not the end of the world even though that’s how it feels for you. I was diagnosed at 62 after dieting since I was 18. No amount of dieting will get rid of the lippy fat but will get rid of any other excess fat you have. A keto diet is supposed to help Lipoedema, might be worth taking a look at that. Hope this helps.
