Hi everyone,

With COVID-19, changing the way the NHS normally operates we have all had to get used to less in person contact with our care teams. Our hospital and GP appointments may now be via phone or video,

There a pros and cons, and although a telephone call may seem straightforward, A consultation by phone is different to a regular call. It can be a challenge for us as patients, for our family and for the medial professional.

How are you getting on with this?

You may find this blog Leukaemia Care have together helpful, it looks at different aspects of the telephone consultation call and offers a few tips, many recommended by other patients, to help you prepare. leukaemiacare.org.uk/suppor...

Yerr... useful and important Nick.

I would add that the call from the hosp and GP maybe time restricted.

The Dr will have their agenda, stuff to ask of us, we also have our agenda.

Lists are good, also at the start, say how many questions you have.

Some of us have email contact with our Haematologist and CNSpecialists. I do, I email them before so they have info up front. I know what they like to know from past consultations.

I keep things formal, brief and to the point. Aware how difficult it is also for the Drs, not just us patients.

Your link is very helpful and teaches us how to get our ducks in a row.

Yes, those top 10 tips are a really good list. So far I have been impressed with telephone consultations and I have found the medical person has talked issues through very well and checked that I have understood and agreed with outcomes. What it doesn't do, unless it is a video call, let the medical person see or examine issues.

Yes, this link was very helpful - especially the point about having a written list of questions you want to ask during the phone consultation.
