Mitigated by being a proper thin crust Pizza and not one of those (to me) awful, thick, stodgy, filled crust 😮, things! I hope you enjoyed it. I had the minus dough-based equivalent - frittata for lunch. It was very nice. Denied myself the sautéed potatoes I put on the side for himself 😇. Copious amounts of goats cheese though.

I agree, the only pizza worth having is a proper thin crust like this.

"filled crust"? I don't think I have ever eaten one. I still enjoy the slightly thicker crust Neapolitan pizzas of my childhood, but of the options available in London, I stick with the Roman, thin crusts.

Honestly, it wasn't that great. Since March, I have been promising myself a pizza when I reached my goal weight, which I did a month or 2 back. I decided it was time, but I couldn't find a pizza place that had a table available yesterday. My friend managed to bag one at Zizzis (a chain), but the pizza was pretty disappointing. It's true what they say: pizza is like sex, even when it's bad it's still pretty good. But if you are only having pizza (or sex) once or twice a year, you want it to be the best it can be. This wasn't that.

There is a woodfired capricciosa in my future, I think, from the tiny Italian around the corner from me. Full price is only a couple of pounds more than this was at half price.

I think a proper thin and crispy proper wood fire cooked italian pizza is a thing of beauty. Other pizza's are often a disappointment as the base is often stodgy or soggy.

I am not a huge fan of American pizzas, especially the big chains and the typical takeaway British pizza, with a base so oily it seems like it might have been deep-fried.

But you can't just say "Italian pizza". The sort you are talking about is actually Roman pizza. Italy has many regional cuisines.

I will defend the Naples pizza - not that it needs my help - it is the original of the modern pizzas, and has a thicker base. Then there is Sicilian pizza, which is a topped focaccia, and is also delicious. It might even have the best claim to be the origin of pizza, as focaccia dates back to Roman times. Though of course, toppings on top of flatbread have probably existed since we learnt to mill grains.

And i also like the pizzas I used to make, with wild caught yeast, and a long fermentation, cooked in a smoking hot cast iron fry pan.

Oh, I am way off topic for this group!

Except that this is also me thinking aloud about how or if carbs will feature in the rest of my life. Pasta I can live without and ditto potatoes. I still dream about bread and butter, but I think that might be a slippery slope. Rice I can mostly live without, but I do love sushi, and I haven't found anything like risotto that is low carb. The bag of arborio rice is still in my cupboard after I have discarded most of the other carbs. I think the occasional carby treat, every month or so, might be OK, if it's sustainable. I promise to post pictures of all them on here.

Just to say, I’ve never had a filled crust pizza - the picture was enough!

I am lucky in that having a carb-fest doesn’t set off cravings, so I don’t worry about eating them although not every week. Same with chocolate gone from chocoholic to 90%+ and at the moment am 6 weeks and counting without any. Don’t know if it’s an age thing or finally realising carbs haven’t done me any favours over the years.

Read a book giving a good acronym for carbs - Carbs Are Really Bad Sugar. I know it’s not blanket but it’s a good reminder.

Fascinating. I came home and had steak for dinner. Yup, just steak. I had acquired some horseradish, so needed steak to go with it.

I woke up I the middle of the night to find my weight unsurprisingly 1. 2kg heavier (I stepped on the scales because I was curious about the water weight), but this morning my weight was 300g below yesterday's. How is that even possible? Could I have already -(literally) flushed the glycogen from my body? The pizza had approximately 150g of carbs, which is a lot for me as I am usually 20-50g/day.

I feel fine today, no ill-effects.

I guess I am metabolically flexible.....now,where is that sushi menu?? 😋
