Hermes123. Off course there are mounting effects on A.E. not of there making in most cases, but budget accountants and centralisation of Health trust try to consolidate into smaller areas. It has caused the Dr. Beaching effect as with the Railways, top people always think of the now, never what is coming in the near future. Close this unit close that unit and so on that will save the N.H.S. £millions now, Never mind the £Billions it will ramp up in the future.

Imagine how more today's railways would be if some of those branch lines were still to act as feeders, the ease of congestion would be amazing.

If cottage hospital and other small units were still remaining, today there could be better used as half way house to stop bed blocking. Staffed by a Senior Matron and a small nursing team with an on board Social worker team, this would act as a temporary holding team, allowing A.E. to to there job in an efficient flow through manner.

None of this is rocket science, just plain common sense Managements of Trust need to stop working in panic mode and begin to think of their long term responsibilities. My heart goes out the present day staff working in A.& E.
