Hi,

We were advised that it is probably ok on short haul flights if you need to but not necessarily recommended. Our son has counts under 10 and we regularly fly between Malta and the UK (about 3 hours) with no adverse side effects.

Hope this helps

Flying is always a nutty question for sufferers. I personnaly think it will depend on the individual and if they are bleeders or not.

I am around a count of 10 normally, take no medication unless necassary and for the best part of 20 years, have not been a bleeder. (I am fortunate). I travel abroad for business, take long haul flights and am only cautious where innoculations are required and perhaps medical attention could be suspect.

You must discuss your personal circumstances with your own consultant who knows your medical history and ultimataley be guided by their advice. However, if you feel your consultant is not a specialist in ITP, then take a second opinion.

Regards,

Sailor.

Hello Julie

Sadly there is no definite answer. Basically it all depends on what your specialist advises. There is no absolutely standard answer we are all different and as Sailor mentions it all depends on personal circumstances, medical history, etc...

The best advice is to discuss your situation with your specialist and ask for advice.

Also don't forget to talk to your travel insurance company if you are going away to make sure they cover you for ITP. If you do travel against the advice of your specialist do remember that your travel policy will not cover you should anything happen during your vacation which is linked to your ITP

The ITP Support Association do have some very useful leaflets for ITP sufferers and Holidays & Travel. See the website at itpsupport.org.uk for a full list of various leaflets available.
