Hi I've recently been diagnosed with ITP and wondered what effect this will have on travel insurance? Thanks - great site :)

I declared it as a medical condition but as I have not been hospitalised due to ITP (thank goodness) there was no additional premium levied and I am fully covered if I have a problem whilst abroad. This is Amex Worldwide Premier Cover and obviously your insurer may take a different view.
Thank you for getting back to me on this - good to know. I've not been hospitalised either so fingers crossed I won't have any probs when time comes for holidays. Not that I'm going anywhere just now but I was wondering about it. Hope u stay well Vi
I have never been hospitalised either but do seem to pay a small extra premium (about £7) so you may need to shop around. I've used Columbus Travel Ins in the past but since I had a TIA they are no longer a viable option for me. Happy travelling.
Thanks Morgan - I have insurance through my bank account so may check that out for I don't think it will be my best option. Not sure when I am likely to be travelling again but its always best to know how these things work. hope ur well now . Vi
I have travel insurance through my bank too & when I notified them of my condition the lady said "it's not on the list". I asked her to put in writing that I was covered - she did. I go abroad twice a year & luckily I have never needed to use the policy but I have piece of mind xx
hi i have been hospitalised with itp , when i had already booked my holiday abroad, the best travel insurance i got with the post office was a few pound more than normal but was totally covered for my itp
Hi Andrea - that's a worry that ur holiday can be booked and then u end up in hospital! Especially if getting time off for holidays can be an issue at work. But thank you for the heads up about the Post Office - I will certainly bear them in mind if my own insurance isn't a viable option for me. fingers crossed for no more hospital stays! Vi
had itp now for 10 yrs , had splenectomy in feb of this yr been up and down with health since then with infections etc... but on the mend slowly
