Has anyone been awarded Disability benefit as an adult for ITP? I have both ITP and Lupus and have had to leave work. Thanks

Hi - I dont know the answer to this one - I am self employed so work hours to suit. Good luck with finding the answer. NickyD

I am in receipt of ESA (was placed in the support group) but was declined DLA on the grounds that I didn't meet the assessment criteria on how much daily daytime/night-time care was required to be eligible for dla.

I am also self employed, but short contract freelance, and not knowing where I am with 4 weekly (ish) appointments and treatments means it is hard to take work in advance.

I got Incapacity Benefit when i had ITP, with a platelet count of 9k and was working at the time as a support worker with Adults with learning and some aggressive behavioural difficulties so it was dangerous for me to carry on working with them. ITP and pred left me exhausted, in pain, vunerable and panicky. Good luck, i think it depends what doc you get.

Like you I have SLE and ITP and had to give up work because of it. I qualified for Incapacity benefit so it's worth a try although all the benefits system is changing. Good luck.
