has anyone had a idium labelling plat... - ITP Support Assoc...
has anyone had a idium labelling platelet test in India...i cant find out if it is conducted here
I think that the indium test is only available at a limited number of centres in the UK, France and Spain.

oh...ok....thanks derek
What is this test for please?
The indium test can be used to label a sample of blood platelets and scan the spleen and liver to see where the small dose of radioactivity( not dangerous) goes over about 24hours. If all of it goes to the spleen then there is a good chance that a splenectomy might work. If the labelled platelets are found in both the liver and spleen then the chances of a successful splenectomy are unlikely. But it is not entirely reliable because there are chances of developing secondary spleens or the liver taking over the platelet destroying functions of the spleen. The indium test is one of changing the chances of success in your favour but cannot guarantee success or failure. The body is very adaptable in finding alternative pathways for various processes.
thanks for that i have heard that a man had his spleen out 5 years ago ITP came back they did a nuclear medicine scan and found not sure if it was desidual splenic tussie from the main spleen or accessory splenunculus (extra) i have read where 10% of the population has a extra little spleen. They took this out and it reversed again. I had ITP 9 years ago had my spleen out it worked but has come back so I am looking into this as well
