At What Age Were You Diagnosed with ITP ? (Please use the age of any child you are answering this poll on behalf of)
I was 40 when diagnosed but realised that I had had ITP since my late 20s. I'm now 73. JO'R
I was diagnosed at 46 but undoubtedly had ITP for at least a year before that official diagnosis. Like many people I would think, I had been getting random bruises and suffering from fatigue for about 12 months before finally going to my GP for a check up. It was then that I had a blood test and a platelet count of 4 was discovered. 5 hours or so in AnE and ITP diagnosis confirmed, that was in 2006.
I had it in 2012 for 9 months. I was 31. I have not had it in the last 5 years. has anyone else had it like this where you may go years without it?
Had it when I was 9. Relapsed when i was 48.
Was it cured?
They thru a lot of steroids at it (pred) until they bounced up a bit. Ultimately they leveled out at about 70-100. I spent the next 38 years living a normal life, with dips I could see and always being bruised but not thinking much of it. Then two years ago I had some strong antibiotics for bronchitis and that kicked off a crash to 0 platelets. After 6 weeks of Ritaxun and steroids (decadone) they popped back up over 200 (highest EVER). They seem to have stayed up, which I credit the drugs but also a homeopathic remedy. I haven't had them checked in 4 months now, and we expect them to slowly dip to "my normal" (which is about 20-150), but they are slow to fall this time. Which is fine with me.
I was diagnosed at 23 years and am now 46. I've never been in remission.
I was diagnosed with ITP when I became pregnant with my first child at 28. Maybe I had it before then! I dont no. My platlett count remains very low at 7. I suffer from extreme fatigue and bruises. Sometimes I have nose bleeds. I dont take any medication. But sometimes take steroids ,if I have a bad cold or sore throat,to help with the infection. Otherwise it take ages to recover ,as my immune system cant cope, and I end up with blood blisters in my mouth. Had about 10 blood blisters when I had the flue jab, dont no if I would have it again. I take iron everyday, and a vit b tablet also vit c tab, with rosehip, to help, my immune system.
shouldn't this poll differenciate age until 12 months old, 1 yr old 2 yr old ? why does this start at 5?
I was diagnosed when I was 48
Also diagnosed during pregnancy...
My itp could be pinpointed... I was diagnosed when I was 32. I was pregnant, had multiple blood tests during the pregnancy but was only told about the platelets when giving birth so I'm guessing that Itp was found in the last blood test and started in the last month before my daughter was born. That was nearly 10 years ago.
I was diagnosed mid 30's but feel I had it many many years before then, and have never been in remission.
I was 49 when I was diagnosed. But I think I had it for about 18 months before that as I had episodes of bruising and fatigue during that time. Just mentioned it in passing to my GP who advised a blood test, although we were not really expecting there to be any problem. I am 54 now and when my count is very low I have short bursts of steroids followed by reasonable periods of time with no treatment.
I was 23 when diagnosed. At 26 they took out my spleen. I was in remission until this year and I am 60 years old now.
I was diagnosed in 1991 when I was 40 after a routine blood test. I had suffered sporadic bruising and fatigue for a while before that. I am now 66 and have only had sporadic medication (prednisone) on a couple of occasions.
This October was a year for the remission, so I guess 17/18 yrs old when initially diagnosed..
Diagnosed at 34
Diagnosed at 51. Treated with all sorts of treatments for 6 years. Partial remission for 4 years then back to the start for a couple of months with romiplostim injections and now back into partial remission with counts around 80.
I was diagnosed at 21, but can trace symptoms back throughout my teens. My son has just been diagnosed at 12years old. His voice has recently broken, so with both of us, onset coincided with puberty.
