I was prescribed Omeprazole 20mg daily to help counteract heartburn and Allendronic Acid 70mg one dose per week to counteract possible bone thinning/Osteoporosis.

I changed GP a couple of months after coming off steroids (around 16months on prednisolone) and was then prescribed adcal- D3 and risedronate sodium. New GP was a little annoyed that no-one had prescribed me anything before. My Haematology consultant commented that it was of no matter as I was young.

Westie that is a high dosage of steroid, my dad takes Lansoprazole for his extreme acid reflux, I have omeprozole daily or every other day as the hyatus hernia valve has worked its way open more through my age, which was found during an endoscopy (vile thing and wouldn't have one again, if you do need one I recommend being sedated). I had some while I was taking steroids when I relapsed for 9 months, it was called Losec then. Owen even though you are young, the steroids strip the calcium out of your bones, I would strongly recommend you take calcium or try the medication Anthony had for his osteoperosis prevention. I have noticed a marked difference since being on steroids, I broke my wrist when I fell once, before that my bones were pretty strong and I didnt fall very hard. My knuckles feel stiffer, and if I knock them slightly they are quite tender for a few days. Whilst I was taking the prednisolone s I also had Aziothioprene, these were as an attempt to ween me off and use them as a substitute but they didnt work.

I find the side effects of Aziothioprene to be opposite of prednisolone. So my digestion works better, and I am more physically depressed (not mentally) so less of the physical stress/ hypertension. I also see my chinese physician for TCM. I consider this to have greatly improved my health against the side effects of prednisolone. And it seems the best calcium supplement is eggshells. I grind and filter the dust and use it when I bake bread, which is always.
