Hi - it would be helpful if you could some info on the kind of food he eats. Also does he exercise? this in itself would help.

Hi Annie,

What sort of diet restrictions are we talking, are they his choice or are they health related (allergies)?

Sometimes if the diet is restricted it can help to try preparing the food in a different way (instead of boiling veg try steaming it, bake instead of fry, try different recipes). A long with the diet exercise will help & can be fun too (swimming lessons, martial arts, gymnastics, dance classes, football or another sport once a week can prove a fun outlet whilst also helping lose weight).

Hey I have autism and have always had problems with my weight. The best advise I can say is to tell him why. Like a bottle of coke has so many grams of sugar. Pour that amount out and show him how much it is! It's that simple! Also help him in it. Don't make him to it by himself. If he can't have chocolate, no one can. Instead of putting him to a club by him self, take the whole family swimming if you can or an event like that. Or even get a cousin or someone in you're family to take him swimming or for a walk if you don't have time. Also they way you cook stuff as well is a sly way to do it! But I noticed the change in texture too! Even try quorn? As I LOVE it! But just remember you HAVE to emphasise the importance of it. As if he doesn't understand, he won't keep it off. Everyone has there bad points so if he is only slightly over weight, I wouldn't personally worry about it. You're better trying to get him included with the community!
