Patients suffering from Hepatitis C may finally have a reason to breathe a sigh of relief. The scientists at the Intermountain Medical Center claim to have found the cure for Hepatitis C. Utah resident Gina Palmer-Douglas was part of a worldwide clinical trial that tested 660 patients. Gina says this clinical trial has cured her of Hepatitis C, KSL reports.

Gina, who was diagnosed with Hepatitis C 15 years ago, says she is finally happy and healthy after suffering from so many years. Hepatitis C, a blood-borne disease that attacks the liver, caused her kidneys to fail and also undergo a liver transplant ten years ago. However, Hepatitis C started attacking her new liver five years back. So, when she heard about the clinical trials, she was immediately on board. Being one of the sickest patients in the world to receive the medication, she tolerated the medicines well. She took one pill twice a day for 24 weeks – which is the drug that cured her. Gina is happy to be living a healthy life with healthy hair, skin and eyes that aren’t yellow anymore.

According to Dr. Michael Charlton, a gastroenterologist at Intermountain Medical Center, the five percent who did not respond to the medication will be given a newer therapy. He said the researchers hope to find out the exact reason those people did not respond to the medicines. There are things that the virus does to become resilient to the different parts of the therapy which is why treatment will be a combination of the genetics and also characteristics of the virus, he adds.

The study is published online in the journal Gastroenterology. You can read it here: thehealthsite.com/diseases-...
