Hi Can anyone give me some advice. I am 59 yrs old , diagnosed with copd in 2009, had a heart bypass operation in 2015, have angina, on meds for my copd, on meds for high blood pressure, have recently been diagnosed with Auortic valve stenosis ( severe ) going to see cardiologist in 3 weeks.
I applied for pip twice and they refused and gave me 0 points on anything, i work for myself but am struggling to earn a living due to my health. can anyone give me some advice on if i am entitled to benefits or can i be forced to work until i drop.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

So sorry you have been rejected twice, I have too and I have congenital heart disease ( Read bio for more info) it's more about how your condition affects you, affecting or stopping you from cooking, washing, cleaning, going out or even just getting out of bed at all I really hope you are successful with claim I gave up because I couldn't take the rejection was too much for me 💔☹️. Are you having symptoms with your severe aortic stenosis?? Plus you have alot of other health issues x wish you all the best and hope your successful!
Hi Thanks for your reply, basically i cant walk more than a couple of hundred yards before i have to sit down to rest, i am always tired and worn out, feel as though my body weighs half a ton, i have mental health issues as well, probably caused by lack of sleep with sleep apnoea. When i applied for Pip they gave me 0 points on anything. And to be honest with you, i know people who are on it and have much less wrong with them than me. Its crazy isn't it.
Yeah I know exactly how you feel x all 3 of my brothers are on pip and they have mental health issues, and I have anxiety and depression and congenital heart disease and I have been rejected twice but I know why it's because of how it affects me my health issues but they more interested in if it affects your sleep, walking, cooking, washing, just every day things, but by the sounds of it it does so definitely appeal the descion. I did and still got rejected 💔☹️ it hit me hard which is why I don't ever wanna apply again x. Hope your able to get a successful claim eventually though! 🤗
It is difficult to understand why some people get it and others dont. I was given Zero points for anything despite telling the woman on the interview i am that tired and haggard i feel like i weigh 50 stone and my body feels all fragile inside, sometimes i go several days without sleep, i am that worn out i don't feel like doing anything. 2 months after being refused pip i go back to Doctors for second opinion on my health, 3 months later i am due to go see cardiologist after being diagnosed with this valve problem. So there must have been some truth in what i was saying to them but lady doing consultation on phone knew better. Bit of a joke to be honest.
Yeah it really is a joke they said I had evidence of significant of psychological distress like I was lying to them!!! 💔☹️. Did they say what the problem with the valve is x. Mine is bicuspid aortic valve severe aortic regurgitation and moderate stenosis and I got a few points but not enough to qualify for pip. So I just gave up I even tried to get my consultant to back me up and he refused! So I really feel for you and everything your going through 😢😭. I can relate so much. I cried so hard when I was refused for pip both times 💔. Eventually I will qualify because my valve will need replacing and even if it's just for short time I will take it. I just wish I qualified now 😌.
Mine is Aortic valve stenosis, severe, Thats all i know at the moment, the doctor called me on the phone the day after i went to hospital for scan on my heart. I am due to see the cardiologist at the hospital next week so will find out more then. Depending on what he says and my doctor says about work, i might apply again. Lot of people tell lies and that's why they get it.
Ahhh you deserve to get that extra support because you will need the valve replaced soon by the sounds of it. Hope the appointment goes well x yeah that's what's so sickening about and people who genuinely need thr extra support and help financially get left out and treated like a time waster and a lyer and breaks my heart 💔💔💔😭.
I'm sorry to hear of your problems. I would have thought if you have been diagnosed as having severe aortic stenosis you should be resting and only doing gentle walking until you have that dealt with. Your GP should be content to sign you off work, but, given you're self employed that may not be a lot of help. Have you been in touch with Citizen's Advice? I don't know the benefits system well enough but I would have thought you could apply for Universal Credit. Good luck. Sorry I can't be of more help.
Hi Thanks for your reply, i have called the Doctors today and asked them for advice on what i should or should not be doing work wise and if i should put myself on the sick. So hopefully i should find out this week.
That's good. Without wanting to scare you, severe AS is a serious condition. Physical exertion can cause dangerous arrhythmias. I can't imagine many jobs that people can do with it - even a desk job if it's stressful and certainly anything physical. Whilst I was waiting for my valve replacement even one flight of stairs put my heart rate way over 100. Continually doing that is very risky. Slow walking is the most you can do I'm afraid
