Hi Tweetyburd. How long you stay in hospital varies from patient to patient but I needed 3 nights whilst some women go home the same day! As for being off work, that varies too. Get signed off for 6 weeks initially, and then see how you feel. Your GP can sign you off for longer if you need it. It depends on what type of job you do. If it’s a “sit at a desk” job, then you might be ok after 6 weeks. If it’s up on your feet and being physical you might need more or a phased return. Good luck. Hope it goes well, xx
Thank u RachaelE, can I ask, did u have abdominal surgery? A lot seem to be laparoscopic 🤔 xx
Hi. I had abdominal surgery as fibroids were very big. I am in week 4 post op now. I can honestly say I was expecting the whole experience to be worse than it actually was. I was terrified! It was all fine! Woke after the up feeling relieved and not in pain. I was there 4 days. Slept a lot but was eating fibe and enjoying visitors Painkillers keep the pain very manageable. Honestly don't be too scared. It s not so bad! Xx
Mine was laparoscopic, so I would expect your recovery to be longer than mine, but we’re all different. My best advice would be to take all the pain relief they offer and rest. Xx
I’m 14 weeks post TAH & BSO. I was in hospital for two nights, signed off work for 6 weeks. I went back to my part time job as soon as my 6 weeks was up but I was very very tired. Fatigue is about the worst thing post op, you need to make sure that you don’t overdo things when you start to feel better.
Hi I had TAH and was in hospital 2 nights. The trapped wind was the worst but I had peppermint water for that which helped. Also dulcoease helped with bowel movements as the Co codamol made me constipated. I was on painkillers for 3 weeks and I am 12 weeks post op tomorrow and only just going back to work next week. I found the fatigue the worse. I thought I was better n do more stuff and the have to rest n sleep for the next two days. My recovery has been really good just slow. So just be patient and you will be fine. Xx
