I'll start ๐Ÿ™ƒ

We've had a run of bugs, so my diet right now has been as lazy as possible. I'm going to cut back on the sugar/processed foods and up my fruit and veg to support my body.

good plan, I have a very sweet tooth and I am always having to watch my sugar intake, it tends to creep back up again (and again) :)

Me too! If only we hadn't been given so much darn chocolate for Christmas I'd be starting tomorrow!

Now you know not to blame having it. Do yourself a favour and give it away or at least halfof it. You might well make someone's day..Good luck xxxx

Enjoy! A little won't hurt ๐Ÿ˜Š

Cooper27 profile image

In fairness, it's mostly a selection of tiny Green and Black's chocolate bars at this point, so it's definitely under the bracket of "a little" ;)

Freesia3 profile image

โ€™A littleโ€™ never works for me when it comes to chocolate, itโ€™s all or nothing! So Christmas was โ€˜allโ€™ and from now on itโ€™s โ€˜nothingโ€™ again ๐Ÿ˜„

Not much change for me as I managed to lose a stone quite easily with LCHF and plan to carry on the same way. Hope you all have a happy and healthy 2023!

Freesia3 profile image
Freesia3 in reply to Flossie1920

Sorry, itโ€™s Low Carb High (Healthy) Fat. You can read a lot about it on this website, it has definitely helped me lose weight without hunger and without counting calories or points.

I picked: loose weight, drink more water, eat more fruit/vegetables and my other is get more exercise during the day.

Great poll, Cooper27 . ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ‘

I'll join you with the exercise one :) I've just become a hermit thanks to this cold, the weather hasn't helped here.

Do you want to do stationary bike riding?

Cooper27 profile image
Cooper27Administrator in reply to Activity2004

Not the biggest fan, our lockdown stationary bike was used twice! But the treadmill got a lot if use, I should just clear the boxes off if it :)

Activity2004 profile image
Activity2004Administrator in reply to Cooper27

I used the stationary bike while I was home for lockdown, but I need to do it again when not home during the week soon.

Starting a Paleo diet!

Cooper27 profile image
Cooper27Administrator in reply to utep99

Ooo good luck with that! I felt my absolute healthiest when eating paleo, so I do intend to gravitate back that way. Batch cooking helps :)

Some of these are dietary changes (eating more, eating less), some are active lifestyle (running, jumping, skipping). I am already doing what I can on all fronts there, eating a plant rich diet and aiming for 6000 steps every day while meditating and coping with the side effects from my cancer medication. I also want to stay financially solvent, pain free and cognizant while maintaining my current weight, not overly stressing my loving wife and feeling as though I have done something rewarding every day. I think that needed a slightly longer questionnaire!

Cooper27 profile image
Cooper27Administrator in reply to BrentW

I'm sorry to hear you're going through cancer treatment. Amazing that you're keeping up the good habits throughout! Good luck with it all :)

Must confess that my hba1c is on the way up and now at 41. So my goal is to get it back down to about 37. (again)

Greyone profile image
Greyone in reply to Cooper27

Last time I stopped eating and drinking out, stayed away from Costa and the biscuit barrel. Built that up very slowly. That's my plan to date

Reverse pre-diabetes diagnosis which came out of nowhere !

Cooper27 profile image
Cooper27Administrator in reply to topaz1

Oh no! Are you doing LCHF for that?

topaz1 profile image

I have been following the recipes on DiabetiesUK and Michael Moseleys Fast 800 recipes, with fingers crossed.

Freesia3 profile image
Freesia3 in reply to topaz1

I started LCHF for the same diagnosis and managed to reverse it while losing weight at the same time. Good luck, I hope your diagnosis doesnโ€™t develop into the real thing ๐Ÿคž

Well done for reversing the diagnosis. I'm waiting for a blood test to find out if I have managed it.

Review with a dietician - no point in giving up something I enjoy unless I really have to ๐Ÿ˜€

Cooper27 profile image
Cooper27Administrator in reply to Flimflab

This is true! A little bit of something enjoyable makes it so much more bearable :)

I plan to try a few more plant based meals. I really need to get more veg and fruit into my diet. Plus it will help with my weight loss as I am a member of the weight loss support community.

This is a great thread, thank you Cooper27.

May I wish everyone a Happy New Year and hope that 2023 will be kind to us all.

Cooper27 profile image
Cooper27Administrator in reply to

You'll be in good hands on WLS :) what sort of meals are you thinking of?

in reply to Cooper27

I am currently looking through some vegetarian/vegan cookbooks to get some inspiration. I am a terrible carnivore so plant based meals are not so easy for me. I do need to cut back on meat though so will see how it goes. I will take things slowly and just try a couple of new recipes a week to begin with.

Cooper27 profile image
Cooper27Administrator in reply to

I have a really good book by Rose Elliott, quite old now, but I've never disliked anything I've made from it! Vegetarian rather than vegan, but a lot of the recipes can be adapted if it suits :)

My high fibre low sugar regime works well for me, keeps my weight just right and seems to be maintainable indefinitely.

Id like to start exercising regularly - I was moderately fit before I had covid. Several health concerns (both due to covid and separate) make this very hard.

Cooper27 profile image
Cooper27Administrator in reply to Fleur29

That's tough - how long have you been affected by Covid? It's never easy finding the balance of exercising enough to give you energy, but not so much you exhaust yourself.

Fleur29 profile image
Fleur29 in reply to Cooper27

I had covid in July 2021. Ended up in the hospital with double pneumonia ๐Ÿ˜•I am left with chronic fatigue and asthma. Before covid, I was walking or exercising moderately nearly everyday. Now, I'm exhausted after taking a shower...

Finding the correct epilepsy medication. These all have side effects, mostly weight gain no matter what foods one eats! Seizure control is vital.

Cooper27 profile image
Cooper27Administrator in reply to lgd333

That must be really frustrating, will the weight gain settle once you're used to the medication?

lgd333 profile image
lgd333 in reply to Cooper27

It depends on the medication and the individual. Very frustrating but life goes on. Happy New Year!!

Continue with intermittent fasting which seems to be working slowly.

Iโ€™m late to the conversation as usual ๐Ÿ˜…, but I think one of my biggest goals this year (along with cutting back on added sugars), is going to be to just really be aware of what Iโ€™m eating. I eat plant based and we donโ€™t eat out a lot, so I want to get a little more creative with meals that I make.

Try to stick closely to low saturated fat diet. I have raised cholesterol levels.
