Do you cook raw beetroot or buy the supermarket vinegar dipped or other

I add feta to some salads when we have it in the house. :-)

We generally have a mixture of salad type of ‘ingredients.’ This includes lettuce, tomatoes, spring onions, beetroot, cucumber. A bit boring I know but I guess all those could go into a salad bowl and mixed around with a salad dressing.

This sounds good and helps add to a big salad idea. It's not boring at all, Biomet . Sometimes, I use leftover vegetables and other items to mix into salads, too. :-)

We have these too, and radishes, really pleased the other day as everything apart from the beetroot ( which is not ready yet) was from the garden. I felt proud of myself.

How long does it usually take to have beetroot growing if planted at home? :-)

It sort of depends how big you want them, small about eight weeks, up to twelve weeks for larger. You can also use the thinnings as micro greens

Cucumber and tomato salad with crisp lettuce, thinly sliced red onion, a few croutons and home made dressing (standard 2 - 1 oil and vinegar, a drizzle of balsamic and Splenda granules to counteract the sharpness).

Same but with, avocado, any kind of berries, mixed seeds, full fat Greek yogurt, feta cheese, chia seed, olives, olive oil, vinegar & a little saltA little crispy bacon chopped up or smoked mackerel ect

That sounds like a filling and delicious meal. I sometimes add fresh chopped chilli to give it a kick plus cashew nuts for crunch. Then either jacket potato or a portion of protein like chicken or tuna. I do like to add a lot of dressing.

Sounds a lot but it’s not, like to grate fresh ginger on it too if I have it!

I don't have salads as a rule, but include half an avocado, pepper, cucumber and a whole lot of lettuce in my lunchtime feta cheese and kefir sandwich (between wholemeal low sugar bread). With so much salad it can occasionally be embarrassing to eat in public!

I also add chopped apple, celery and walnuts to make a sort of Waldorf salad, I use either a mixture of yogurt and creme fraiche or lightest of light mayonnaise. Balsamic vinegar and virgin olive oil makes a wonderful dressing.

This is a great idea. I haven't had Waldorf salad in a while. May have one with dinner either tonight or later this week coming up. :-)

Avocado, beetroot and three bean salad with mixed leaves (watercress, spinach and rocket), I like to have smoked mackerel with salad too.

This sounds great with salad and smoked mackerel. Will have to find some time to do a new batch of homemade 3 bean salad for the side soon. :-)

I use the tinned 3 bean salad in vinaigrette.

I like a plate of fruit - bananas, grapes, apples, pineapple, and melons. And add some walnuts!

My favourite salad mix is either apple, red onion, red cabbage, lettuce, cucumber and tomatoes with home made mustard vinaigrette or coleslaw made with apple, onion, white cabbage, red peppers, carrots and mayonnaise.

This sounds like a great salad. How many servings does the recipe serve? 😀👍

MTCee profile image
MTCee in reply to Activity2004

It’s highly variable depending on how hungry me and my hubby are that day and how much salad veg I’ve picked from my growing area and greenhouse. At the moment my Japanese cucumbers are nearly ready to pick and I’m looking forward to some simple Greek style salads made with the super crunchy cucumbers.

Cucumbers on a salad are one of my favorite things to do with cucumbers. Our neighbor grew and gave us some leftover home-grown cucumbers a while back and I had them added to a side salad. They were very delicious. :-)

My favorite type of salad is tomato and cucumber plus I like creating my own as I like to add in spring onions , colorful peppers ( red, green and yellow), pomegranate seeds and pineapple chunks with beetroot and sometimes an apple. Most important you have to have a hard boiled egg on top, completes it.

I could eat salad for an entire week as I find it so refreshing to have in the summer plus any time of year salad isn't just for the summer. What I love about salads are that they are so nice and light to have, bright and colorful (as it is about the color) and easy to make.

I really enjoyed taking part in this survey as I really enjoy my salads, looking forward to your next poll.

Yes, salad of all types is very healthy, and I plan to have one tonight with hummus and other items on the side with dinner. :-)
