How healthy is your diet and lifestyle? Mul... - Healthy Eating
How healthy is your diet and lifestyle? Multiple choice poll.
Hi Jerry try our best to eat as healthy as we can. We are in Scotland for a few days but brought much of our food with us to avoid buying in shops. The fridge and cupboards in the cottage are groaning. Alice x
Hi and I know that you do Alice so you enjoy your stay in Scotland and am sure that you’ll eat well. 😊
I'm in trouble😬. None
Water is an easy one to start with, providing you like your tap water . My favourite tap water is in Yorkshire , well it was when I lived there. Unknown now as I haven’t lived there for many years.
For some reason I have problems with any type of water. It doesn't sit right with me and then i feel sick to my stomach. Any explanation would be helpful. I tell the doctors and they seem to bypass an answer for me.
There’s various suggestions on when to have or not to have water such as before and after eating, I think it’s about an hour but unsure. Have you tried warm water or just having sips throughout the day. And avoid ice cold water as bad for the system. I don’t drink tap water anymore unless it’s boiled to have as a cup of tea. Can you drink tea ?
No. I don't do tea or coffee. Mostly milk. For some reason it doesn't matter in amount of water intake I do it still doesn't settle right.
I made a conscious choice three years ago, aged 70, that I would stop fretting about my physical body and do what made me feel more mentally comfortable in life. There came a point for me that this was much more vital. Food and treats are vastly more important than they used to be. I try to eat as varied a diet as I can manage (and even that becomes more challenging in older age), and I cook almost everything from scratch as a habit from an early age. But for the rest, if I really want a bar of chocolate for breakfast, I'm having it! 😃
Very well said Sue as we have to be comfortable with ourselves and I’m sure that you eat well for you.
I learn what MY body needs and how it reacts to things on an individual basis. One size or diet doesn't fit all. We all have our individual needs and it's important to become familiar with the foods and exercise that benefits you as an individual. It's very easy to be put under pressure by the media or other well meaning people even if they don't have your unique needs.
Edit: I would like to get more excercise but I am limited by my inflammation. So it's better to do a bit each day instead of only once a week and take the rest of the week to recover.
You’re absolutely right happytulip we have to do what works for us and with any inflammation treat it respectfully and get it tune with our body and it’s needs.
And you seem to be doing this really well so good for you. 😊
All of the above except the exercise. I cant do as much as I used to due to extreme chronic fatigue and tachycardia. Thanks to God I'm the same healthy weight that I was since high school.
Hi Hidden ,
Wonderful poll idea.
I picked: Eat 5 a day most days , Eat a balanced varied diet , Cook lots of meals from scratch , Drink plenty of water , Have adequate exercise , Try to maintain a healthy weight , Minimise/Avoid processed and sugary foods because I try to have all fruits/vegs. a day (the ones I can have that won't interfere with medication), have a balanced diet, cook most of my meals so I know how many carbs. are in them, I drink more than the 8 glasses of water a day, get lots of exercise by using the stationary bike in the afternoons 7 days a week, try to keep my weight maintained so I don't go back to my school year's weight and I try to eat items that aren't having too much sugar in them.
Hey thanks Leah and you’ve ticked all the boxes so good for you. 😊
I struggle with water. It's fine if it's got a nice malt with it tho' 😆
LOL Hidden I tend to drink lots of tea so get lots of water that way so enjoy your tipple. 😊
I used to cook every day from scratch, now being disabled I cant. I still try to eat 5 a day but its difficult
Well good for you as we have to live with our limitations and they don’t stop you having your 5 a day and that’s what counts. 😊
I try to eat a balanced varied diet, but don't succeed very well, as for the exercise, does walking to and from my car count? I am now 15 1/2 stone and feeling it 😞😞🙁🙁
Hey you know what you need do to lose weight and get fitter. 👍
I eat a mainly whole food and totally plant based diet. I do like a dessert, but try and make these fat free and fruit sweetened. I do some pilates, leg and arm exercise twice a day but shd definately do more brisk walking than i do as i have high blood pressure
Good fir you Ninn I also like a nice pudding and I work out with weights if you want encouragement to walk brisker there’s a free App for that so here’s a link:nhs.uk/better-health/get-ac...
It’s a great app as I’ve downloaded it and it encourages walking brisker. 😊
Thanks for tip, i used it for my walk today, it seems accurate. I think it will encourage me to walk more frequently as i wont like seeing the blank days. Like the teacher who says nothing but shakes his head in disappointment
Good for you Ninn as it is accurate and fuss free I hope it encourages you to get out for more brisk walks.
My weakness is drinking a beer while cooking the healthy meals
Hey at least you cook healthy meals and enjoy cooking it all…😊
Yes all of the above plus intermittent fasting.
Very well done you MTCee keep it up. 😊
None of the above.
I try to apply the 80/20 rule. 80% of the time I eat really well but allow myself to enjoy treats every now and then without feeling guilty 😋
A perfect approach Kaz as healthy eating isn’t austere eating we have to enjoy our food. And I’ve seen your delicious meals. 😊
Aspire to do all of the above - that is the goal
Good for you as you’re already reaping the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. And this must inspire others. 😊
What is it they say about roads being paved with good intentions?
Don't help myself by being a firm non salad or fruit eater.
The odd tomato or tangerine, I tend to live on endive, spinach, broccoli, cabbage etc.
So, still plodding along that road. L
Hey Lavender54 it sounds like you eat the healthiest greens there are and that’s what’s important so you’re plodding along just fine. 😊
I do consider myself to eat a varied diet, but restrictions on certain foods like a simple Orange & some dark green vegetables does come into this. At the present time, I am treating myself to a very nice GF shop bought mince pie 2 to 3 days a week which fits in with my gradual weight reducing diet. I believe in having a treat in moderation and the choice has changed over the years. I am a lot more aware now of added sugar in processed foods thanks to this Healthy Eating Forum (exception made for the seasonal mince pies) Exercise is limited partly due to Chronic Fatigue and Arthritis etc. Great poll Jerry.
Hi Rosepetal60 I’ll tell you something I’ve a box of gf mince pies in the cupboard and an iced rich gf fruit cake so you enjoy your mince pies. 😊
My diet especially how much fruit and veg I eat is restricted by my medication which is very annoying. Trying to eat a bit of everything 😋 + exercise what ever my body can take even if it just walking.
try to exercise daily but not sure I do enough
When diagnosed, I desperately wanted to feel a little power in the face of the bad news. Medical professionals frankly downplayed this aspect of the picture, and I wish they were more enthusiastic in encouraging it for all of us. Good health habits are important for my mental state for sure. I have incorporated all the things you listed.
I don't do a healthy diet I do Healthy Eating so I eat a balanced varied diet, drink plenty of water, have adequate exercise, try to maintain a healthy weight, I minimise sugary food and I haven't touched processed food in a long long time.Enjoyed taking part in your Survey.
ALL meals are cooked from scratch here.
