What are your favourite healthy sandwich side dishes? Multiple choice poll
Potato chips
Crips
My fave side with any sandwich is frozen peas - well cooked of course - served hot and eaten with a fork!
Crisps
Well I have cucumbers and tomatoes with my sandwich when out working, as keep my food in my car! But at home I have soup in winter more often, cuppa soup, warming and nourishing!
But often have salad with my baked potato, fish or chicken, eggs, and vegetables!
Must get out my bath, water getting cold folks 😁🛀😁😂
I love these polls because it always gives me some ideas on new things to try. So now I will go through the comments for something to go along side my sarnie tomorrow 😀
It's not healthy, so I'll whisper. A nice bowl of triple fried chips with lashings of salt and vinegar. Please don't tell anyone 😋
Oh yes please!!!!
Crisps!!
I do like a nice sandwich so am already enjoying the replies so look forward to reading more.
I like baby tomatoes silver-skin pickled onions grated beet lettuce and cucumber the most.
I also like a soup made with low salt organic bouillon which’s a very clear soup which’s a perfect accompaniment sometimes.
Crisp or mini cheddars 😂
When I have sandwiches, I have: Soup , Salad , Veg , Fruit and Greek yogurt as side dishes on a rotating basis. Depending on the type of sandwich, I have baby carrots, salad and/or soup. When I have peanut butter and jam and/or cheese, I have a Greek yogurt and/or fruit 😀👍👍
Great poll idea, Hidden !😀👍
Hey thanks Leah and what a nice selection you have. 😊
Homemade fermented cabbage
At the risk of seeming strange, I rarely eat sandwiches. 🥪 Occasionally I have a toasted baguette 🥖 spread with non dairy marg and filled with vegan ‘bacon’ and I have a salad with that. Otherwise when I’m out and unable to get a meal or heat up soup or anything, I’ll have a sandwich, spread with vegan mayo and filled with vegan ham, salad, beets, gherkins and anything else that I can reasonably fit in the sandwich. Because I’ll be eating this on the go, so to speak, I don’t have a side with that.
I was going to stop being the contrarian, but I just (as in 2 hours ago) ate my first sandwich in nearly 2 years, while wearing a glucose monitor, and the results are actually really scary. At least for me, sandwiches are not a health food.
I suspect I am not unusual in the British public, so the typical lunchtime meal deals of sandwich, crisps and a fizzy drink is a metabolic disaster area.
Like pie and mash: who needs that many simple starches on one plate?
Sorry 🙏
I generally have a small roll with egg, goat cheese or vegan quorn slices then cut up some sticks of carrot, cucumber, celery and a few radishes and dip them into a light salad dressing. I'll usually follow that with a piece of fruit for dessert. Sometimes I'll have a tomato as well but I much prefer crunchy veg with a sandwich. Probably a texture thing left over from when I used to eat crisps/chips years ago instead of veg.
Ready salted crisps
It always used to be plain crisps and that was my first thought when thinking about sandwiches. But then I thought, I’ve given them up. And I hardly ever have sandwiches anyway these days as I’m not that keen on the commercial gf bread plus I’m careful not to put on weight. Good job I don’t live near any shops as I might have weakened and bought a packet !
Sometimes a few naughty crisps!
Soup is always homemade and comforting. We sometimes take a flask of hot soup when we go walking.
My wife and I like pickled baby beets. This falls in you vege category, but thought I'd be more specific. These are pickled with a bit a sugar are are sweet.
I rarely eat sandwiches. I might have a slice of bread with soup . I did have a lovely roll with tomato slices and marmite recently.
Vinegar and salt potato chips, but the dill pickle would be a nice substitution. 😋
I don't eat bread so never have sandwiches.
I seldom have side dishes with soup. Maybe a slice of rye toast but otherwise homemade minestrone or roast root vegetables and white beans soup fill me up.
Hi Jerry, I don't eat sandwiches, generally hardly ever eat bread, so my equivalent would be an omelette wrap stuffed with salad/grilled veg/cheese/meat or other fillings --- then coleslaw on the side is always a delicious combination Yum.. I'm thinking about lunch now!
The sort of bread I bake doesnt make into sandwiches so no side dishes for me!
We NEVER eat sandwiches, 100% wholemeal bread does not make good sandwiches.
In the summer I love a side salad next to my sandwich but in the Autumn and winter I prefer soup on the side as it is a great warmer.
Great survey to get people talking.
