What will you be having for your Christmas dinner, multiple choice poll:
117 VotersFantastic job done with the poll, Hidden ! πππ
Thanks Leah, the notifications appear to be working now.πππ
I've ticked nearly all
We'll be having roast of some sort (not turkey, I can't cook it well enough) with roast potatoes, roast veg, sprouts, GF stuffing and some pigs in blankets.
And why not! so you enjoy it. ππ
An excellent poll Jerry, I've chosen nut roast and roasted parsnips/veg, can't think of anything better.π
Hey I've seen your nut roast Alicia...ππ
Oh it did turn out good Jerry π
Quorn roast.
O yum - Christmas dinner! Homemade cranberry sauce is a very different experience to a jar of bright red sticky sweetness! Definitely chesnuts with the brussels too.
Iβll be on my own ( with my dog) so Iβll probably have a trout or hot smoked salmon fillet that will be a treat with roasted veg.
Iβm spending Christmas Day alone so am unsure what Iβll eat as Iβm very keen on Christmas pud so may have a light meal and then an individual Chrissy pud with lashings of custard and there wonβt be any arguments on what to watch on tv...Iβve 3 individual GF puds and 3 GF Christmas cakes so Iβm all stocked up...π
I'll be on the turkey with the trimmings, but will also have a nut roast for Boxing day!
Yule log cake
Festive Sweets
Santa Biscuits
Chocolates
Wine
Mints
Smoked salmon wrapped in foil for sandwiches
Fruit and cheese platter
Good poll will be interesting to read what people have.
My eldest son usually cooks Christmas dinner, and he does a great job, catering for meat eaters and vegetarians, sprout lovers/haters, parsnip lovers/haters!
I canβt eat large meals but donβt want to miss out so I have really tiny portions of everything, tiny slice of Nut roast, probably 1 roast potato, roast carrots, peas, broccoli, apple and herb stuffing ball, homemade onion and tomato gravy.
On Boxing Day thereβs always plenty of nut roast left over and I can have a bigger portion with my salad!
Thank you Fran and I love reading the replies too. Your Christmas dinner sounds perfect with your son cooking it so you enjoy it. π
Great post Jerry, Ive ticked roast parsnips/Veg and hopefully some onion free stuffing. Thats as far as I've got, haven't even decided on dessert π
Thanks Debs, that sounds lovely I'm on my own and having a light lunch with an individual Chrissy pud with lashings of custard...π
We will be having a local free range chicken. I could happily eat my weight in roast potatoes
This sounds good to me Penny, πI do love roast potatoes but remember going for a Christmas meal and sitting opposite someone who didn't eat veg and they had 12 roast potatoes with the roast and stuffing! π±
Going to my hod daughter. Do Jamaican dinner of jerk chicken rice and peas.
Roast lamb, roast potatoes, carrots, broccoli
Steak, roast potatoes and the usual winter veg selection
My family are not visiting because we are in tier 3, and we all think itβs too risky as we are OAPβs. We are having a simple roast (no turkey) lots of veg and then Christmas pud with custard AND cream, Yum, only because itβs Christmas.
Christmas pud with custard and cream how good is that...π
Salmon, done by my other half, using a Robert Carrier recipe. Divine!
Great idea for a pre-Christmas poll. Thanks Jerry.
We shall have all the traditional items plus cabbage. Iβve recently discovered white cabbage sliced thinly and fried gently with butter and a smidge of olive oil. Absolutely delicious and quite versatile.
When I first read about it on the HU site I didnβt like the sound of it but itβs truly yummy and fits in well with LCHF.
If you havenβt tried it I seriously recommend it.
Happy Christmas everyone.

Thank you Sewneat I love the sound of your fried white cabbage and if an LCHF diet works for you thats great.Happy Christmas to you. ππ€Ά
Our plan is roast pork with crackling loads of vegetables Iβm going to have one small roast potato it will be the first since early May. On the pudding side since taking sweeteners out my diet I no longer crave sweet things and hubby donβt do pudding anyway.xx
Full house breakfast .. and snacks over rest of day.
As there will only be four of us a big chicken seemed a better idea than a turkey. Several of my neighbours will be eating my beef. Tradition has been tamed by pragmatism this year.
No idea. Whatever is in the fridge. probably cheese on toast.
Venison and port casserole, roast potatoes, sprouts, swede
GF non dairy lasagna, salad, gf rolls, cranberry apple crisp.
12 sorts of vegetables
Just three of us so a large free range chicken.
Chicken roast potatoes vegitables. If it is dry will go for a walk and have cheese + sourdough sandwich and slice of Christmas cake.
Believe it or not, we are having a chinese feast! Because we can't see family there will only be 3 of us; our son (aged 20) said it would be great to do something different. So, we have bought in the starters, the duck recipe has been agreed (I'm cooking) and one thing we have decided is that each of us is cooking a main that will be secret until the day to have with noodles & rice. Hopefully, I won't guess the men's dishes as I have to do the shopping Should be a great way for us to have a laugh on Christmas Day.
Slow cooked lamb with rosemary and garlic yum!!
An Italian seafood salad with loads of crustaceans and shellfish; antipasto; Christmas Ice Cream with berries
Roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, cabbage/pepper slaw, homemade cranberry relish and Christmas cranberry cake here in PA, USA.. ππ
Yorkshire puddings with our beef, gammon and roast potatoes.
I'm surprised turkey is so low
I'll be on my own so that means the bits of a traditional dinner that I really like. So pigs in blankets, roast potato and parsnip, stuffing, red cabbage and particularly bread sauce. Note the complete absence of sprouts! Then much later in the day an individual Christmas pud with custard (it must be custard, anything else is simply wrong!)
cant beat home made chestnut stuffing
Yorkshire pudding
ππππ But I'm working on Christmas day to support our residents.
Glazed ham and ribeye roast
We will be having a 3 lb Guinea fowl. With roast potatoes , parsnips, sprouts, smoked bacon rolls, gravy and I think GF stuffing. Followed later with a yet to make homemade 11 hours of steaming Christmas pudding without added sugar, which is handy to give individual portions to my 2 diabetic friends. I found over the 40 years of making it, I could use less sugar and for the last 15 years, no added sugar at all.
Plus Xmas pud a bit later cos we will be too full. XX
I'm making a veggie Wellington for my husband the children and I are having turkey with everything π
Hi Jerry , not a great fan of Turkey , only two of us at home this Christmas so having Roast chicken , at least that way it will all be used up , broth ,soup etc . A very Merry Christmas to you and all at Health unlocked and of course poll partakers ! Great work keep it up .
Fruit salad, sweet potatoes
We will have roast chicken, roast beef & an extra choice of a homemade Desperate Dab style Steak pie in rich succulent gravy/flaky pastry.
I'm roasting a celeriac for my Christmas dinner! Yum Yum!
Itβs Guinea fowl for us. Doesnβt that sound posh?!?
Very grand Kipperrun so you enjoy it. π
Other is none of the above. After years of trying to produce the perfect Christmas dinner when no one really liked turkey, sprouts etc, I realised that as long as we were all around the table enjoying a special meal together we should just have our favourite food, and canvassed opinion on what that should be. So that's what we have - whatever people want, fortunately we mostly agree on one particular main, but I'm quite prepared to make other things as well to make it a special occasion where everyone is happy.
Duck Leg
This is my favourite part of christmas. Eating a healthy meal with my loved ones on christmas day.
I love the poll.
Thank you Lotus-Blossom we love polls on HE so you're in great company with us. Enjoy your Christmas meal and day now. π
It will probably be couscous and aubergine en croute with apricots, raisins, peppers, flaked almonds, mint and spices from Good Food Vegetarian Christmas 2002 edition - a firm, and delicious favourite
For many years I used to cook a very large turkey plus chipolatas and all the trimmings, for a big family party. This year I will roast a small-ish chicken for two - myself and my mother - it will feel very strange!
chicken instead of turkey with 4 veg.
I make my cranberry sauce, use fresh cranberries orange rind & juice & 2 tablespoons port.I make my stuffing from turkey giblets, chestnuts, onions herbs, lemon rind lentils & mushrooms. Lovely cold or hot
Spinach & chard from my garden
π
Lamb guard of honour with mint sauce
Chestnuts, bacon (with the sprouts), yorkshire puddings, carrots, lashings of gravy!
This is my favourite part on christmas day a healthy christmas dinner with my loved ones around me.Great poll.
Interesting poll Jerry.
We'll be having a frozen turkey breast this year. It will be the first time we didn't get a full fresh turkey. The reason being that with Covid - we don't have any of the family calling over this year.
It's very sad, but that's just the it has to be.
And this is a very good question: D
Traditional Christmas Eve dishes already bore me a bit and I have this approach to tradition: D
As this is my first Christmas Eve, which is organizing, I thought to go a little modern side and make a vege dinner, but I have some concerns about how the rest of the family will react to it. How do you think - to risk? When its better to buy isk - ISK Eve Online are important for everyone who wants to be a part of the EVE Online unierse.
Traditional CHistmas in Eve are great, cause community is awesome. You should try.
First, buy some isk and get some help
My advice: odealo.com/games/eve-online...
BUY ISK
In the βotherβ section we will be having Duck breast and Duck leg.
Chicken
1 roast potato ( following LCHF and go test myself ππ)Glass or 2 prosecco π
Planned dessert : ginger poached pears with double cream
π€all goes to plan ππ
I just had this vision of you (or more likely me!) drinking several glasses of prosecco before being faced with the roast potatoes, then all constraint going out the window
as we are on our own we are having duck
nut roast, all the usual roasted sides and veggies, cauliflower cheese and bread sauce. Husband's mum always served cauliflower cheese with their Xmas dinner and for some reason my daughter always wants bread sauce. Oh and gravy.
Last year we made pizza, and everyone enjoyed it. Maybe we'll do that again.
I'm late checking my emails...lol Ok we had Turkey Crown and Quorn roast for my daughter , Yorkshire pudding, stuffing, sliced carrots and potatoes. My daughter made a cheesecake flavoured with some baileys. and we tried some hot mulled wine In the evening for the first time. Did anyone try something different like that over Christmas? Hope you all had a nice Christmas.
