I love fasting. Fasting gives you so much time for yourself. No need of cooking & eating...& feel lazy after eating ๐๐
other is spending time with friends , laughing ( not necessarily both together - it may be just laughing at a film /tv programme /joke etc !) and appreciating every day
Other is meditation which helps me remain focused, mindful and problem solve. Xx
Excellent Jints1, good for you. ๐งโโ๏ธ
Try gaining weight. Spending time with the new Chesepeake Bay Ret. puppy and training him, he gives such great love. Hopefully will be a great seizure dog for me. Loved meditation but now so busy, was so relaxing-hope to get back to in a few months.
Sounds like a great way to stay fit a happy puppy and especially a rescue one. So good for you. ๐
Great job on the poll, Hidden . Lots to pick and think about!๐
Thanks Leah, itโs really good to see how many members are taking lots of healthy options, very encouraging ๐
My 'other' is that I keep up with my friendships, talk to people I don't know when I'm out and about and i do a bit of volunteering each week. I live alone ( have done for last 20 odd years) and feel that being sociable is a big part of keeping myself fit and well.
Very good poll Jerry. I like to exercise, eat well, limit alcohol (I don't actually drink lol) and maintain weight. Oh I some dark chocolate may pass my lips๐
Thank you Alicia, you chose the same options as me and I donโt drink either. And Iโm happy to eat good quality chocolate sometimes too....๐
I was going to select eat well but since I rarely score a 10 for that I decided not too. Maybe with just a little more planning and hard work...
My โOtherโ is self hypnosis relaxation , Jacobsonian Technique, wonderful when sleep eludes or stress intrudes.
My other is volunteering, giving back to others.
Hey Jerry, you forgot to include sleep! To me, good sleep is the most important I can do to be in good health. My "other" is sleep. I eat well, I exercise, occasionally do intermittent fasting, I don't consume alcohol, I maintain my weight and I have me time.
Women need to be aware that too much, too long or frequent intermittent fasting can disrupt your oestrogen/progesterone balance, effect thyroid hormones and mess up your menstrual cycle. If any of these hormones are unbalanced, you'll start to have a collection of other symptoms, like weight gain, brain fog, headaches, etc. The brain ovary axis, also known as the HPG axis (the relationship between the hypothalamus, pituitary gland and gonads) must remain in balance for the body to function properly. The reason that women are more sensitive to the negative effects of fasting is because we have naturally are supposed to have more of a hypothalamus hormone called kisspeptin, also known as metastin,, than men. Kisspeptin in released from the hypothalamus and engages with pituitary receptor sites and causes the release of neurotransmitters. Neurotransmitters are what is responsible for our regular menstrual cycle, as well as our sex hormones. When women fast, this causes a decrease in kisspeptin, which starts the domino effect on a woman's hormones. If you do IF and have experienced weight gain instead of weight loss, brain fog, headaches, are having missed or irregular periods, break through bleeding or other symptoms that indicate hormonal problems, intermittent fasting and decreasing kisspeptin might be the cause.
Every woman is different in terms of their age, hormonal levels, fittness levels and sensitivity to lowered levels of kisspeptin due to fasting. Every woman also has their own way of fasting and their own diet. It's good to be aware that fasting does not always have a positive outcome for women.
I eat a much more plant-based diet these days and I have lost a lot of weight and feel and look so much better than I used to for it.
I have limited my alcohol as I normally only have a pint of Guinness or beer/lager usually once per month.
I chose โotherโ as well because I also try to limit processed food/sugar intake.
Sugar being man-made refined sugar and processed foods are laced with the stuff as well as harmful chemicals.
I also take vitamin D, magnesium and CoQ10 and drink lots of filtered water.
Need to lose weight...struggling to maintain weight, ....seem to have lost my inertia after last yearโs house move. Other health considerations include reading up on any aches, pains or conditions that affect me and my family...the internet has a wealth of useful information at your fingertips. Apart from a little age related arthritis and long sightedness, am keeping well looking after my menagerie of chickens, dogs, goldfish and geriatric ponies. Nothing like a little poo shovelling to burn calories and keep you moving in your old age! Just got to remember to eat smaller portions and not buy anything with red on the label.
Iโve cut down on Alcohol , have 2 alcohol free nights and less amounts on other days. And Iโm choosing to loose weight on a modified version of the 2/5 diet. (Iโm in the healthy weight range now) other is : I have been going for Traditional Chinese Acupuncture treatment for many years out of necessity.
Hi great poll Jerry,
My other is sleep I've found that if I aim to be in bed for 10.30pm I sleep much better and for longer.
I avoid high carb foods on the LCHF eating plan and im enjoying it, the low carbs also helps with fasting as I don't crave carbs now. I don't drink alcohol and I avoid all processed foods.
Xxx
Other: I meditate and follow Buddhist ethics and dharma so I'm sleeping better and much less stressed. I also practice Reiki, am vegetarian, teetotal and don't smoke plus I track my food and macro nutrients and take a whole slew of supplements because I have a medically induced malabsorption syndrome. I'm healthier and can't remember the last time I had a cold, I don't get flu and headaches are non-existant.
I used to have a terrible junk food diet which was full of sugary processed foods, fizzy drinks and hardly any fruit or veg AKA REAL food.
I have a brain injury and would not be surprised one bit if the horrible diet was culprit.
I used to get frequent headaches but have now switched my diet and incorporate more fruit and veg.
I hardly get headaches now :).
Thatโs the power of nature for you :).
